This was my attempt, several PUGs ago, to get an original view of Big Ben:

Jaume Lahuerta, "Big Ben" - ok, so maybe there *are* no original shots
of the Houses of Parliament, but that's a damn good try :-)

It's not that I need to make them out, it is that they are just fuzzy
enough to be mysterious and keep my attention on the photo. I'm sorry to

Thanks for a kind comment. I'm not sure if I can make out all the titles. I
don't have anything with greater DOF and the cinema is closed now so I can't
go there ang have another look. The building is going to be taken apart soon
but there is a chance for a new movie theater in the new building. Don't
know which ones you've allready got but if something bugs you there I can
try to sort it out for you.

Gracias Luis,

I decided to send the cropped version at the last
minute, but now I think that maybe it would have been
better to submit the original (with the whole
building). In the original picture the shadow is
bigger but not that disturbing, and I agree that I
didn't achieved the level of isolation needed only
cropping. That is, or the whole building or only 3 or
4 balconies.
I'll try with a tele.

Thanks for your time,
Jaume

June PUG comments: Paul Stenquist, Jaume Lahuerta

2001-06-11 Thread Luis Pinar

" New York Geometry " by Paul Stenquist, USA:
I like this. The composition is balanced and the lines
enhance it. The ‘extension’ is eerie, and the
reflection makes it look as if adhered to the glass
with some adhesive. The lighting is flat and the sky
bleak, but I assume that was what you were looking
for, to achieve this cold look. Good photo!

" Balconies in the Afternoon " by Jaume Lahuerta,
Spain:
This is an interesting subject, but I wish you’d be
able to isolate some detail with a longer lens. The
lighting is pleasant, but the big shadow at the BLC
breaks the pattern of the other shadows and is
distracting IMO. I’d shoot it again with a tele and a
tall tripod, if that is possible.

Thanks very much, John.

Indeed, the train stations in Argentina would make for an amazing
topic. For example, the stations on smaller towns are all erected
according to the same planes. Every few kilometers you find what was
initially the same building, each now modified in different ways by
time and the people using them.

Next time I go I'll try to get off the train, if they are still
running, or use a car and spend a day visiting them.
