From: Godfrey DiGiorgi You should convince her to set the Camera Raw Cache Settings to the default location. A cache size of 1 to 4 Gbytes is about right for most users. In Lightroom 3.2, this setting is in the Lightroom Preferences dialog, File Handling tab panel. Without being specific, because I didn't know exactly what was causing it, I'd already suggested pretty much that ... whatever was creating the cache files was set to desktop when it should be set to a folder. But it seems like one of those things where she'd rather bitch about it than listen to anything an old man might suggest. I've offered my idea and she can do what she wants. Re: Lightroom v3.2 and Camera Raw v6.2 are released
Such it is. I've experimented with the cache size on my system further. For my size catalog ... 78,000 image files ... 10G seems to be the balance point between providing better speed and not consuming more disk space than necessary. Re: Lightroom v3.2 and Camera Raw v6.2 are released
The Camera Raw plugin never works with Lightroom. It works with Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. To use Camera Raw 6.x you need the latest PhotoShop Elements for basic operation and Photoshop CS5 for advanced features. To obtain support for the new raw processing features in LR3.2 or Camera Raw v6.2, you're going to have to update to compatible hardware. For new camera support, you can download and install DNG Converter v6.2 and convert files to DNG for use with LR2.7. I upgraded my computer system so I could update to LR3 as I was still running all PowerPC hardware. Now my desktop system is an Apple Intel-based Mac Mini. Re: Lightroom v3.2 and Camera Raw v6.2 are released
I think I described it previously, but here it is again anyway. When in editing mode, it shows below the film strip like the ribbon with all the photos from the current selected set, be it a directory, a filter or whatever. So, suppose I am editing an image in the middle of the bunch. And suppose further that I actually delete the image from within the edit module. Once image is deleted, it just resets showing no image selected or something like this. In LR 2.7 it would simply load the next image in the set. This was most convenient as I could both apply some basic/initial editing to those images I'd keep and delete those that I did not need. Not any longer in LR 3. There is a workaround that I could select all the images in the set and then edit them. But then, for example, if I edited one image and I want to export it, it would export *all* the images, and not just this one. It is not exactly convenient. At least not in a way that it used to be in previous versions of LR... Re: Lightroom v3.2 and Camera Raw v6.2 are released
Boris, I am unable to reproduce the behavior you describe. This is with LR 3.2: - I created an LR catalog and imported 12 photos. - PIcked a middle one of the set and went to Develop module. - Did some editing then decided to delete the photo by pressing the keyboard delete key. - LR asked me if I wanted to remove or delete the photo. I chose remove. - The photo was removed from the catalog. The next photo in the film strip was chosen and ready for editing in the Develop module. I repeated the test using a collection and a sorted group using a filter. Always behaves the same way for me, so I'm not sure what's going on with your setup. File a bug report with Adobe, I guess. I tried telling her she can go into Lightroom's preferences and set it to use a folder for Lightroom's cache files, but she doesn't want to hear that. I don't think that can be good though. She's inadvertently got the Camera Raw cache set to the desktop. On Mac OS X systems, this should be set to the path ~/Library/Caches/Adobe Camera Raw by default. But it's neither bad nor good. The Camera Raw cache can be set to any folder on the system for which a user has read/write access privileges. The contents are dynamic ... they're created on demand by the application while it runs. Having it set to the Desktop folder just creates a lot of clutter, but doesn't hurt anything. You should convince her to set the Camera Raw Cache Settings to the default location.
