Shel,
1/3 N is the designation seems to work just fine in the LX.

The owner's manual says to use two 1.5 v alkaline (A76) or silver oxide
(EPX76) mini-batteries.
I can find no prohibition against the use of lithium batteries.
However silver oxide batteries last so long, and are so plentiful, I see
no reason to go to lithium. . .
My LX came with Varta V76PX batteries and they are still working fine,
so I haven't changed them yet!

Hi Keith ...

I have a 3v lith in my newer LX, and it's been pumping out the current
faithfully for a bit more than two years. Unfortunately, there's no
model/size designation that I can find on the battery.

Varta is no longer making or selling batteries here. They have been taken
over by Rayovac and many stores in the area no longer carry them as they fear
(maybe they know) a drop in quality.

Anyway, the silver oxide bats in one of my LX gave out yesterday right in the
middle of shooting, and since it's replacement time, I'd like to go with the
definitely (for me) longer lasting lithiums.
A volt is a volt, what diff should it make if it comes from a lith or an
alkaline or silver oxide battery?

Probably because lithium batteries didn't exist when the manual was
written?
Lithiums have, I believe, much higher surge current capacity, so they
could potentially damage inductive devices like motors when they try to
draw a lot of current on start-up. Many manufacturers warned against the
use of lithiums when they first appeared but many non-approved devices
actually worked well with them.

So, are you saying NOT to use lithiums in an LX, or that it's OK to use 'em?

Thanks, Bob ... just the info I needed. BTW, that's the size used in many

There are slight differences in how different types of batteries deliver the
voltage. I seem to remember that one of the early Nikon cameras (F2 maybe)
didn't do well with anything but silver oxide batteries. It won't do any
harm though. Since the feedback from the group is that it works fine in
their LXen I would guess it will work fine. The battery designation is 1/3n,
2L76, or 58, depending on manufacturer.

DL1/3N, 2L76 or CR1/3N are the designations.

I have used these lithiums in six LX's (I no longer have six but I got carried away at
one stage) they have worked fine and these double sized 3V batteries eliminate the
contact between the two smaller 1.5s which has to be a good thing.
