With all the water under the bridge since they stopped the 645D, it

noise of the high-MP bodies which frankly the K20D already does.

Agreed. They aren't going to get the noise level of the D700 or the
resolution of the D3x, or even close, with a crop sensor.

I think the 22-megapixel square sensor is either someone's fantasy or,
more likely, a joke, but the way forward clearly involves bigger sensors.

And though there's a lot of self-ego-stroking and chest-thumping
involved in the full-frame game, there *are* photographers who really do
use the benefits possible. The night photography Dave Savage has done is
fabulous and takes great advantage of the low-noise characteristics
possible when you put 12 megapixels in a 24x36 format.

My goals tend toward higher ultimate resolution (for large prints). I
think I may buy a Sony A900 before the year is out.

No. Nor do I expect any - Pentax are pretty close-mouthed about
future models prior to the official announcement. The only semi-
official word we heard from Pentax was some time ago, before the
Hoya deal became final, when it was suggested that there would be
a higher-end model beyond the K10D/K20D line.
Remember, we didn't even know for sure that there would be shake
reduction (or SDM lenses) until shortly before their announcement.

I have a question, witch perhaps have been discussed before, about the
next
Pentax DSLR. Is it possible that Pentax release a new advanced model (a
upgrade of the *istD) during 2005, and what can we expect from it if
that is
the case?

I think the new camera is scheduled to be released at the next Ulan
Bator show..

Seriously, they pretty much have to release a new model, if for no other
reason than to maintain some sort of dignity in the marketplace.
My bet is nothing until the fall of 2005, similar body style to the
istD, 8mp, more or less the same feature set as the istD, but with a
larger buffer and faster frame rate.
Note, this may well be completely off base.

One thing I wish the MZ-S had is the abilitity to show the aperture in the
viewfinder (and on the film) when in Av mode with an A or M lens. I guess this
would require the aperture to be set from the body with an A lens, but not
possible with an M.

I'd like an IR remote port without the additional base too.

I agree that it's the best handling Pentax body I've used, although I do like
the KX too. An MZ-Dn would be great.

Hey, I did say with updated electronics it is just that the MZ-S
handles so beautifully, although there would be a couple of small tweaks
that can make it even better.

I hope your source is correct, I need a new camera very soon (my old Z1p is
slowly dying). I also hope that Pentax for once could show their muscles and
give us a camera comparable with the DSLR:s produced by Canon and Nikon.

No, Pentax does not like official releases of information, even after the
thing
is in the hands of reviewers. However, the info came from a usually reliable

source. His info on the istDs, that I posted here on the list at least a
month
before any official info, was right on target. He gave me the info about the

spring release at the same time and had no details except it was to be a
model
above the istD.

Hey, I did say with updated electronics it is just that the MZ-S
handles so beautifully, although there would be a couple of small tweaks
that can make it even better.

I wouldn't touch a camera with the original Philips CCD that Pentax
planned for the MZ-D i beleive that the same ccd was used on the Contax
N digital and apparently that sensor had serious noise issues.

I would'nt mind an APS-C size sensor as long as the perfomance is up to
scratch and can kick a few N and C butts on the image quality stakes.

Even if P designs a new body all they need to do is draw inspiration
from their best handling bodies like the MZ-S and the Z-1P but at the
same time continue to build on the improvements they've already
implemented in the *ist series. For example I think that the Finder on
the *ist-d is arguably better than the MZ-S so the finder on the new
DSLR should be an improvement on the *ist-d's finder etc. etc...
