Re: OT - Wi-Fi Enabled SD Cards

2017-04-17 Thread Brian Walters
Thanks, Godfrey.

Yes - I'm beginning to think that a straight card reader for the tablet
would be less trouble. The Lunmix isn't used often so it's difficult to
justify the cost compared to the slight inconvenience of the card
reader.

I can't recommend the Eye-Fi cards on the basis of their inconsistent behavior
and unreliability. I went through four of them trying to get them to work in a
couple of different cameras. They never did in a consistent and reliable way.

Other vendors, maybe. I have tried any since my more recent cameras (except the
Leica M-D) have all been WiFi enabled.
For the M-D, I use the Lightning to SD Card Camera Connection cable to move
files to my iPad, which is quite fast if a little less convenient.

Re: OT - Wi-Fi Enabled SD Cards

2017-04-17 Thread Peter McIntosh
Hi Brian,

I've done both and card reader is definitely quicker. Eye-fi in the
TG850 means I don't have to open it all the time; its waterproof so I
can transfer while it's wet. With other cameras it's been card reader.

Card reader is definitely cheaper - jaycar is your friend :-)

Re: OT - Wi-Fi Enabled SD Cards

2017-04-17 Thread Brian Walters
Hi Pete

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm in two minds about this - might be just as easy to connect a card
reader directly to the tablet - a little more cumbersome but, for the
small number of image transfers involved, it still might be acceptable.
Still contemplating...

Re: OT - Wi-Fi Enabled SD Cards

2017-04-16 Thread Peter McIntosh
Hi Brian,

I've got a 16Gb Eyefi Mobi card in my Olympus TG-850. I have used it
to transfer to my Android phone and Android tablet. Initial
connection can be a little slow, but it's stable once connected and
transfer rates are fine. You'll need the Android app on the device of
course.

I just went onto the eyefi site and clicked on Shop, and it seems they
have partnered with Toshiba; I was taken to Amazon and a Toshiba 32GB
FlashAir III Wireless SD Memory Card.

they're no longer available.

Hope this helps.

OT - Wi-Fi Enabled SD Cards

2017-04-11 Thread Brian Walters
G'day all

Just wondering if anyone has experience with wi-fi SD cards such as
EyeFi Mobi.

My wife has a Lumix LX-5. It's an older model but she quite likes it (so
do I :-)) but it's not wi-fi enabled. She would like to be able to
transfer files to her Anroid phone/tablet for posting to Facebook. I'm
wondering if a wi-fi card would be worth considering. Note that she
isn't looking to transfer large numbers of images, so speed of transfer
isn't critical but reliability of the w-fi connection is.

Any thoughts?

Cheers
