That depends on what the recycle program entails.

If it's just meant to make sure the metals & plastics get re-used rather than 
ending up in a landfill, just take a hack saw to it.

first i'd try holding shift as it boots, until after the Apple logo appears 
— this will disable third party extensions that may be causing it to hang on 
boot


to boot an iBook G4 from an external drive, the installed OS version will 
have to be no later than OS X 10.5 (10.4 for some earlier models); the 
original install DVD should also be able to boot it

option key as you power it up.

It does not boot up it just gives me a blue face similar to the finder
icon. Nothing on it to secure but you never know. Might just do the

If it's like my 12" G4 Powerbook, no quick way. That design buried the HDD
inside requiring much disassembly to reach.

If you can get it booted from an old Mac OS X DVD you can use the Format
app to do a security format where it overwrites the entire disk with
several passes of data patterns designed to make it _really_ hard to
recover anything. It's good enough unless you have The Secrets To World
Domination on there and the Illuminati are after you for them.

If not bootable, you could drill a hole or three right through the case and
the drive to render it inoperable. You should be able to locate the drive's
position from that online video.
