So you'll know where I am on this, I consider it sort of a playful attempt at "cute". The form of the mouth, its total stance and shadow I find pleasing. FTR, I don't feel it's a 'strong' image. I have absolutely no emotional investment in it and guarantee that I'll find no comment offensive. Just curious as to what it may elicit. It won't come up again. Actually, I feel this MIGHT be an interesting subject and background, but I don't think you got the best angle on it. Something a little closer, a little lower down, or something, I feel could have made it cuter. Thanks, Marne. Yesterday, after scanning, I checked the bottom edge to see if the scanner had cropped the bottom a bit, but found it hadn't. IOW, I agree. I got an off-list critique which included the suggestion that the shadow might be too strong. I considered the shadow to be a major element, and found the camera needed a higher angle to give it a form I liked. This slide has gone back into its secondary storage crypt where it is likely to spend eternity. These comments may read like a criticism of your remarks..they're NOT. I think you are being too hard on yourself about it - I like it quite a bit the way it is - I think the shadow and the creamer are well balanced, I like the Southwest feel to it - the old look of the (then) new pottery. I like it. I agree with Marne that the creamer is pushing too close to the bottom of the frame, but I like the basic sense of form, light, and shadow here. I'm tempted to say "get lower" wrt the creamer, but I'm not sure. I once shot a couple hundred ceramic pots as a favor for a ceramics instructor to document the final projects from his class. My first instinct was to get low on the subject, but then you lose the shape and form of the opening of the piece. Thanks, Mark, You hit it exactly. My featured element was the mouth or opening of the creamer. I tried lower, but the shadow began to narrow so moved back up. I've printed the Shadow somewhat lighter and like it either way. It is too tight on the lower left, but when I checked the slide, I verified the the scanner had gotten it all.
