When I am home, I walk with my dog for a mile and a half in the morning and
another mile and a half in the evening. Here, I walk on the beach and do
laps in the pool. (and follow my wife on her shopping excursions.)

There is a nice paved road that passes through lava fields, forests,
Rainbow eucalyptus groves, cattle ranches, pineapple fields, pleasant
residential communities and the surfer's mecca of Paia.

Thanks, Ann. I like the second shot better as well, but Lee wanted one
showing more of the house.
The rocky area just in front of the palms encircles a sandy flat area where
many weddings are held, especially on Feb 14.

Stay safe and warm and healthy.

10,000 ft asl. That does not compute with my 80 year old body!
I might consider biking down the volcano, however. My son and I have done

PESO: Maui Blog 6: Beach House

2022-01-27 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
We have a tough schedule here. Every Morning I get up at 7:00, put on the
coffee and the tea kettle, and then walk to the resort office to pick up
the Maui News. Back to the room to make and eat a hearty breakfast, look
over the paper and check our emails and messages from home.

By 9:00 we are off to one of the local beaches, for a walk on the sand, a
quick dip in the ocean (76 F today) and an hour or so in the morning sun.
Back to the condo swimming pool to wash the salt off my body and my board
shorts and swim a few laps, followed by a leisurely soak in the hot tub,
and a bit of relaxation by the pool.

Then, it's back up to our room for a light lunch, after which we are off to
the market or a bit of sightseeing to get out of the midday sun. Back
again to the pool for a quick dip, followed by the hot tub (104 F) until
it's time for sunset (about 6:12). We walk or drive to one of our
favorite spots for sunset watching, possibly grabbing a couple of
shave ices on the way.

Then back to the condo to grill dinner at the outdoor barbecue area. After
cleaning up after dinner, we usually watch something on Apple TV or TiVo,
then look over the photos of the day before having a nightcap and off to
bed.

It's a tough life, but I'm getting used to it. When my son gets here, next
Wednesday, we will do more active exploring, like a trip up to the top of
the volcano, a whale watch, and some snorkeling or diving. We will also
eat dinner our a few times at our local favorites, although some have
closed forever because of COVID.

Today's morning beach excursion was a few miles south to
Po'olenalena Beach Park, which we like to call secret beach, because the
entrance is difficult to spot and the parking lot rough and unpaved.
Still, it always seems to attract several groups of visitors and local
families. It is a very popular site for beach weddings.

On our first trip to this beach, my wife fell in love with this house on
the neighboring peninsula. We come to see it and photograph it every year,
and think of it as our dream vacation home (although it is WAY out of
our price range). It was even used as the opening scene on the Nat Geo
Channel's show about Hawaiian real estate.
