Re: PESO - Sharpness Comparison Redux
Finally got time to study them. Have looked at them on two different screens, even. # 4 has pronounced purple colour artifacts, so I rank this at the bottom. # 1 has a bit lower contrast than the others, as seen in the mark above the "S" and around the screws. # 6 and # 5 tie in sharpness, while different from each other in rendering. Look at the stripe made by running water down from the screw at top, for example. # 3 and # 2 appear "best" in terms of sharpness, with # 2 slightly ahead in apparent contrast, again based on the appearance of the mark above the "S". All said, I think the variation in mottling of the red colour on the sign surface indicates there must be some random error introduced by your image processing here. Hard to tell how this influence the apparent sharpness, but I suspect it does, at this level. You also have a slight variation in selected aperture between lenses, which you haven't explained. If based on info about maximising MTF, I'd understand, otherwise it's just another randomiser. I also think the differences are so small that this is well within the realms of nitpicking. Or measurbation. I don't think there's anything the list can provide for you here that you can't arrive at yourself. Jostein 2009/6/10 Joseph McAllister : > A bit impractical as far as PDML goes. Re: PESO - Sharpness comparison
Joe, I think #2 is my choice, but #4 isn't bad either. I really like the old FA 28-105. When I finally got one a couple of years ago, I wished I would have had it with my original PZ-1. The FA28-90 was a dog. It almost killed my photography. Regards, Bob S. On Tue, Jun 9, 2009 at 1:32 AM, Joseph McAllister wrote: > I shot my local stop sign from my deck this afternoon. Went through them several times and "think" #2 is the sharpest. Joe, 1 and 6 are the worst. 2 -5 are about equal as best I can determine. Walt -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: PESO - Sharpness comparison
Not on any of these lenses. I tried a few like the DA* 200, and following the instructions in the book exactly, it got worse. I will attend to that another time. Most of my DA lenses tend towards back focus, which I overcome by trying to always shoot my dog activities on sunny afternoons, between ƒ5.6 and ƒ8, depending on the lens. More sharp pictures that way. On Jun 9, 2009, at 00:18 , AlunFoto wrote: One question... Did you calibrate the focal plane on your K20 for each lens before testing? PESO - Sharpness comparison
I shot my local stop sign from my deck this afternoon. Six different lenses. Auto-focused second push on the release on the stop sign, center spot, center weighted exposure, similar focal lengths, anti- shake on, MTF mode. http://homepage.mac.com/jomac/PESO/0007/ If you go through images 1 thru 6, then go back and start over, they will be in your cache, and load much faster.
