thank you Joe.

For what it is worth 1826 is a case of ashat that wasn't quite as sharp as i'd
like that I used the clarity slider to give it more of a painting feel.

I'm finding that even with a split prism screen, manually focusing a 200mm lens
on an active musician from 15 feet away is a bit challenging.

Re: PESO Danny blowing the bone

2012-09-17 Thread Darren Addy
I agree with Frank. You've captured a peak moment and composed it
well. The tight crop is what really makes the shot by excluding
anything that would have been a distraction to the moment of a
musician deeply involved in producing his note. A fortuitous bonus is
the repeating colors of bluish-grey, seen in the curve of the hat and
the curve of the trombone and then also repeated in his sideburns and
Van Dyke.

This is perhaps the most impressive I have seen from you, Larry
(although I have to admit that I don't get to check out everything).
While the color thing is really working for it, I would be curious to
ALSO see what sort of quality this image might produce in Black and
White, if it were mine.

2012-09-17 Thread Igor Roshchin

Larry,

It's a very nice shot, both technically (DOF, focus, exposure, light,
..) and emotionally (you've caught a great moment).
The instrument being out of focus is nice, and its lines lead the eyes
to face.

One thing that bothers me is that the chin is cut off.

For the second shot, it's a good snapshot, but it does not work for me
as a big photo. I think that comes from both the composition and
too many highlights on the face.
IMHO, the other shot of hers (20120913-LRC71808.jpg) is much better,
even though I'd try to crop it to a square... or, maybe not..

Oh yeah! The bw ~really~ works well here. I think I prefer it to colour. Then
again I think jazz is a black and white sort of thing, evocative of small
smokie bars in the forties and fifties.

This is a great shot.

Also I didn't notice the second shot this morning. Like that one a lot. Very
