Peso: Tompkins Square Park

2006-12-20 Thread ann sanfedele
http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=5358414

I thought I would see what would happen if I shot in color with and
orange filter and then
converted to BW - but the conversion didn't look too good and I liked
the orange so I left it alone.

shot in raw, converted to tif with no adjustments, cropped a teesy bit
(a la Mark Roberts's idea)
slapped on a border - thats it.

I felt virtuous because I shot something with my LX for the PUG and
loaded it already.

I like this very much as it is different.
Foreground shadow with large tree branch arching. Another tree with twisting
branches in centre and somewhat blown out surrounding tall buildings, all in
sepia like colour.
Looks like turn of the century photo with a touch of ghastly (?) feeling.

Re: Peso: Tompkins Square Park

2006-12-20 Thread ann sanfedele
Thanks , Paul (another night owl I see!)
and Bruce

It was more interesting to me than the straight shot I took.

The church in the photo is in danger of being torn down and it is
historic and beautiful.
The way I shot masks the scafolding around it.

Bruce - again, when I hit reply to the post you sent it truncated my
original email -
perhaps there is some setting in your particular mail server that is
causing that?

anyway, glad you guys liked the shot -- except for a couple of shots
with the LX I havent
been shooting much for myself .

I see what you mean about the fire - but I didn't until you mentioned it.
the 19th century look and the patterns of the trees are what I liked
about the scene myself.

The church in the background is in trouble --

I'm not religeous at all but the structure is an old an handsome one and
I think I mentioned
earlier I gave them a print of another photo of mine (where the church

sold at auction to support the committee to save the place.

The colour is cool and adds atmosphere to the shot. But I'm also fascinated
by the lines. Messy and neat at the same time. A strong composition. Very
well done.
I have stolen it as my new desktop. Sue me if you feel like doing it ;-)

Super! This is a wonderful photograph: Intensely, darkly mysterious
and yet full of light and power. I missed it until just now and I'm
glad I didn't miss it completely. Wonderful work.

Hey, Godders

thanks muchly! --

I had slapped on an orange filter when I headed out as I couldnt find
the polarizer or my lens cap
(whadda shock, eh?) but also wondered if I shot monochrome would
conversion to BW be better
I liked it better orange -

I happened to be passing the park on the way to rescue someone from
computer hell of a kind
I do know how to fix ... so it was pretty much f8 and be there - so I
was lucky.

I almost missed this post of yours :) Glad I saw it.
I've missed a few of your traveling across country things I think --
do you have them gathered some where in a GESO ?

I've been pretty occupied with Xmas eve and day stuff - just hopped on here
quickly before facing last nights dishes

Best,
ann

So far I've posted five photos from the road trip to my PAW 2006
gallery:

   index page: http://homepage.mac.com/ramarren/photo/PAW6/

   individuals:

   http://homepage.mac.com/ramarren/photo/PAW6/43.htm

I'm hoping to scan some more of the 645 film today.

Ah - well, as it happens, I did see these - I thought ther might ahve
been more

And one of them is now on my fridge :)

I really don't do cards anymore, but appreciate them mightily -
there are maybe 5 or 6 people that I feel I have to send them to,
relatives I never see that are not wired...
