Well, you learn something on this list every day. I always though that
"fender" was North American for "bumper" (when it's not Fender with a

What is a bumper to you? (or you to a bumper... )

On this side of the pond, the bumper is the part below the lights that
would be the first thing to touch another car if you rear ended one.

In other pictures of the car from a more frontal angle you can see that the
bonnet of the car (which you colonials call the 'hood' drops away quite

I had absolutely no idea what kind of car it was. For a moment I thought it

I think that you're right. My first thought was that Ann was a wizard of
distorted perspective, making the hood seem 1/3 as long as normal, but I don't
know if she could make the windshield look upright and still have any hood in
the frame.

Right. So, I'll go back to guessing.

I tried to look for pictures of hood ornaments and didn't have any luck.

It looks, to me, like a pickup, which would explain the passenger side mirror
on a vehicle of that era, but poking around looking for photos, I'm stymied.

Well I know very little about brands of cars in general.. except for a
few that were part of my past, what my Pop owned, what my boyfriend

I don't even remember what car my second husband and I had.. it had 4

that was a big mistake. 20 years later I learned because I had to.

Re: Peso - The hood in the 'hood

2011-07-26 Thread Paul Stenquist
i've never seen a mirror like that on an American car, and since the mirror is
on the right and dual mirrors are rare on older, small cars, I suspect it's
right hand drive - perhaps English. But it's not an Austin or a Morris. I'm
bewildered.

Based on the hood ornament, I'd guess late 40s to early 50s General
Motors; perhaps Oldsmobile.

From: Paul Stenquist

This one has me scratching my head. Based on the shape of the hood
and the mirror, i'd guess a 1960s Japanese car. Paul

When I saw it there was a guy of my vintage near by... we were both
admiring.. I guessed 1960 as the vintage... he said why don't you look
on the registration? I said I cant read it too small type.. so he told
me. 1960 was within 2 years. not Japanese. no more hints..
I'll post the full car at some point... but the shot wasnt as
interesting to me
