RE: Anybody else shooting the Leonids?
I should chime in... I was all set to at least observe the Leonids, then came this trip to Ohio... Cloudy and plenty of urban lights. A far cry from back home in Florida - and I could have gone off to my friends place about an hour from me. She owns 20 acres and there may be about eight lights visible from her place - oh well. Foggy, cloudy - what better apology could I have had for staying in bed? But I would have preferred to see some of those glowing stones. :-( Bernd - original Nachricht If I can get my carcass out of bed early enough, I plan on shooting them with the P30t/Zenitar 16mm fisheye and the Kiev 60/Arsat 35mm fisheye, both on Ilford 400 B&W film. Bill Me and a friend are going to take in the 10 o'clock early show a little to the north of San Antonio, Texas. I'll be taking either some 800 speed Kodak or Fuji, depending on what's in the bag. Also, a tripod, the ZX-5n w/remote cable, FA 24/2, FA 35/2, A 50/1.7, and the FA 77/1.8--trying to cover my bases in case the moon is putting out too much light for the wider angles. My friend will be taking his Oly 3030 digital. Dan Scott Followup: I had a great time, draining a thermos of coffee and bullsh*tting with my bud. Astronomically, however, the night was a bit of a bust. I did see two faint meteorites but, between the intensely bright moon and the high, patchy cloud cover, conditions were less than optimal. For a fleeting moment I thought about it, then I remembered my last year attempt.. Spending all evening ill-prepared in a frigid field somewhere in the Poconos sobering up from the party earlier that evening.. With a ZX-5n I didn't know how to correctly use, yet (I had no idea how toet shutter times of 30s, and I had no cable release, it hadn't arrived!), and my ZX-50, which I could at least set to 30s sets.. Also used the Zenitar 16mm, only to find as I was getting into the car later that morning that the lens had developed a fine layer of frost at some point in the evening. Finally, going to WORK after spending the evening out there to pull an eight hour shift. Sleeping on teh couch in front. Trying to not sleep at my desk. So, I thought about all this in the space of a few seconds, and decided I didn't need to try and photograph leonids this year, especially since not a single frame turned out from the last year. Instead, I slept. That's OK, it looked cloudy out at like 2am, anyway. -- http://www.infotainment.org <-> more fun than a poke in your eye. http://www.eighteenpercent.com<-> photography and portfolio.

I checked the weather outside in the evening, checked the forecast and went to sleep. When I woke up and looked outside it prooved that my decision was right - guess I don't have tripod high enough ;-) Pity, as I was happy to see some spectacular astro show... Went out from 9:45 to 11:20 central time and did not see anything. Really clear night and bright moon but only saw one shooting star the whole time. I will probably get up at 4:30 and take a look. We'll see then. Good night every one. Re: Anybody else shooting the Leonids?
The European activity peak is predicted at 5 am here. My alarm clock is set to four, but I dont' know if I'll make it... If I do, I will make a go at LX, FA24/2 or FA31/1.8, loaded with Portra 400VC, which is the only high speed film in house tonight. :-( I'll post something to the list if I manage to get up. If it's good here, it might be worth staying up for in the US too. - Original Message - From: "Bill Owens" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Monday, November 18, 2002 11:00 PM Subject: Anybody else shooting the Leonids? > If I can get my carcass out of bed early enough, I plan on shooting them > with the P30t/Zenitar 16mm fisheye and the Kiev 60/Arsat 35mm fisheye, both > on Ilford 400 B&W film. > > > Bill > > >

I wish. 1) I'm stuck downtown, where light pollution will be terrible. 2) It's supposed to rain tonight, so even if I could get outside the city, I fear there would be nothing to see, and I'd just end up cold and wet. 3):-( regards, frank Bill Owens wrote: > If I can get my carcass out of bed early enough, I plan on shooting them > with the P30t/Zenitar 16mm fisheye and the Kiev 60/Arsat 35mm fisheye, both > on Ilford 400 B&W film. > > Bill -- "The optimist thinks this is the best of all possible worlds.
