Really? I just looked it up and one meaning for the word trolling is
to move around : RAMBLE according to M-W.com...

yeah, it means the same thing here - I just somehow imagined that I would
be trawling ebay cos then I'd haul in my catch and throw back all the
rubbish to pull out the gems. I thought a 'troll' was a malicious monkey
who stirs up trouble?

Does trolling mean something different in your parts, Cotty? I know that
back when I was hitchhiking in Ireland, I was told to always ask for a
lift instead of a ride. ;)

You mean like fanny pack ? ;-)

Cheers,

I have seen two of them, both aimed at digital, but they may have other models too:

1) Tenba DB-15C
This one has the lens-compartments accessible from the outside
without opening the whole front-flap ...

2) Lightware Digital Bacpack
Seems to be accessible without laying it down, but pictures are unclear

Yes, me too :-)

The Lowepro Compu-trekker is on my short-list now, but that is mainly
since I want to take a digital outfit inlcuding a laptop on the plane ...
(It does NOT have lens-drawers by the way :-)

Yes Amita it was Domke. It is called the Outpack and I just
 bought a used one
about three weeks ago. I always loved this camera bag and
 wanted one but they
were very expensive. I found one used in mint condition.
 They're quite large
but they hold a lot of gear. I like the drawer-type
 compartments, perfect for
mid-size prime lenses. The large compartment in the middle
 holds my 400/5.6...
After buying it, I'm considering selling my lowepro Nature
 Treker... Vic

Thanks, Vic! It looks like the Domke Armadillo was an update on the
Outpack design. Could you please tell me the dimensions of the Outpack?
If it's too tall for me to carry comfortably, there's no point in my
lusting after it. :) I found a guy out in CA who has an Armadillo to
sell, but he hasn't gotten back to me yet.

In the meantime, I am heading back to BH today to look at the Lowepro
Trim Trekker as a replacement for my Micro Trekker 200.

I have also been looking for a backpack. Is the Outpack still being sold? When I go
to the Domke Outpack website I find under Outpack only two bags, for long lense
(800mm) and dri packs. I cannot find info on the OutPack you describe or where to buy
one. Do you have a website of a dealer?

Hi Amita- The Outpack's dimensions are about 24 inches long
 by about 13-14
inches wide. It includes a raincoat removable handles to
 carry it from the top
or the side. It also has a very well-designed harness system
 for carrying the
bag a long distance... I can take a shot of it and e-mail it
 to you if you
 like...

Found it! I went through some old Outdoor Photographers that I was about
to throw out and found it. It's the Domke Armadillo 30 and it's not made
anymore, so I'm going to start trolling ebay for it.

Doesn't look like it, which is a shame because it was a brilliant
design. Anyway, I finally found the dimensions of the Armadillo online
and it turns out it was 22 inches tall, which is way too tall for my
back. I think I'm going to settle for the Lowepro Trim Trekker for now,
but the Trim Trekker has its flaws as well - the Domke Outpack and
Armadillo and the Tenba DB-15C seem to be the only backpacks ever made
that allow front or side access to equipment. I am seriously thinking
about trying to create my own bag.

Try this to get a picture of the backpack and information. It really is as
cool as it looks. It's not for everyone - it's big. But it sure holds a lot of
equipment for all of us collectors who like to have everything with us...

What do you mean by front loading lens drawers?

It sounds like you could be talking about one of the smaller Crumpler
backpacks. They have the camera area in the bottom, and I believe
that they are front loaded. I have a larger Crumpler backpack (Brian's
Hottub is the model) and like it a lot, but you do need to take it
off to get to the lenses.

This is the Crumpler model that I was thinking of:

This is what I have:

It had drawers in the front that tilted open. I saw it in an
advertisement in Outdoor Photographer.

I've seen Brian's Hot Tub and it's way too big for me unfortunately, but
thanks for mentioning it. :) I actually want to take a look at the
