 I'll even
meet you at the airport, and present you with a bare bottom,
 target rings
and bulls-eye painted on, ready to go. Make sure you've got
 some extra
 grotty hobnail boots :-)

Now that I wanna see!!

Hi, Rob,

Not me. That's why even if I don't like the CL, I'm going to say I do.
I was thinking of booting his (fully clothed) butt. Sorry, but I don't
need to see it bare, with target painted on... vbg

Re: New Toy! Woo Hoo!!

2002-07-18 Thread Paul Jones

Dont get disheartened if it takes a while to get used to, it took me quite
some time to get used to my M6. The 40mm Minolta/Leica Summicron is supposed
to be an excellent lense. Have fun.

Now you'll need to pick up the 28mm and 90mm for it! and maybe an ASPH 35mm
:)

Paul

So today, I bought Dave Chang-Sang's Leica CL with Summicron C 2.0
40mm. A very nice looking little unit, I must say! I hope everything
I've heard about this lens is true (you out there, Cotty? g).
Certainly, the prints Dave showed me were impressively sharp.

Should be a nice little camera for street photography. But, Cotty,
after your big build-up earlier this week, if I'm not happy with it, I'm
going to fly over there to kick your butt. vbg

I know it's ain't a Pentax (hence, the OT), but I just had to share with
 you guys. I'm a Leica owner! :-)

Congrats Frank - it truly is a great little camera. I'd go so far as to
say that if you don't enjoy it as much as I think you will, I'll even
meet you at the airport, and present you with a bare bottom, target rings
and bulls-eye painted on, ready to go. Make sure you've got some extra
 grotty hobnail boots :-)

seriously, it grow on you more and more. Also - it's *not* an M series
camera. I know that sounds daft, but wondering about with it, you don't
feel that it has a stigma attached to it as the (say) M6 does. People
gawp less, it attracts less attention, and so lends itself beautifully to
street. You will have loads of fun. If only Leica had joined forces with
Pentax on that one instead of Minolta.

The focus takes a moment to get used to, but from then on, it's great. No
shutter lock, but when I wind on, I'm serious ;-)

Good luck with it and have fun. You will.

 Cotty

Hey Frank ... that's neat. Seems like you're getting all sorts of new
gear these days, and most at pretty good prices. Perhaps I should hire
you on as my purchasing agent g

BTW, I first read the description as the Sigma 50~500 lens. Mount that
puppy on your helmet and zoom through Toronto traffic on your Schwinn,
and you've got it made.

IAC, it seems that you're having fun smile.

It's absolutely mint - even the case is mint.
 I paid $60US, so I think I got a good deal.

Re: New Toy - Woo hoo!

2002-04-26 Thread frank theriault

Thanks, Shel. I have to get things at good prices... I can't afford to do
it any other way! g

We'll see how sharp the lens is, and whether I got that good a deal. I do
prefer primes, and intend eventually to start to acquire k-mount primes to
cover the ranges that I need. However, I've always figured that getting a
couple of zooms to cover approximately the 35-200 range is a cheap way to
get most of the usable range I need (albeit at the cost of some sharpness).
Now I can take my time and shop for those Takumar and Pentax primes that I
covet - for the bargain prices that I need.

And, I would never attach a body/lens to my helmet. I remember your advice
in that regard - not that I want to revive that whole OT helmet/no helmet
laws thread again! vbg

regards,
frank

My latest eBay purchase came in the mail today,
and it's a beaut!

A Sigma 50-200 3.5-4.5 APO one-touch
zoom.  It's absolutely mint - even
the case is mint.  The vendor says he bought it
about 1985, and used it
twice, and I believe it.  I've read some good
things about it - it's
supposed to be pretty sharp for a zoom.  I'm
hoping since it's an older
metal-barrel one, that Sigma's well-known
mechanical unreliability won't
apply here.

I saw one for $375 US at some on-line shop, but
that seems a bit steep.
I paid $60US, so I think I got a good
deal.  Saw one (with a C
mount) BIN for $100 about a week after I won
mine, so I feel pretty
good.

I know what I'm doing this weekend - well,
actually the same as every
weekend, but this time I'll be doing it with my
new zoom!

regards,
frank
