Until the *istD came along I used a 3MP Canon PowerShot G1.
A great little camera - I gave it away to someone who used
it for quite a few more years!
(The camera claimed "3.3Megapixels", but that was the size
of the CCD - the largest images it produced were 2048x1536).

Here's a shot from the Long Beach 2003 Race Weekend:

Yes, the result is very good.

We still have an Olympus C-500 compact (5Mp) & a Pentax K110D (6Mp)
which both do quite well if you are prepared to use you feet or zoom to
fill the frame. Useless for bird photography. 2 frame portrait Pano's
double the Mp. I read an article on simulating a K1 using a K5 or K3
like that.

Here's an example with the K110D & FA 80-320 at full stretch uncropped:

I have no idea what species or genus this is. It has gills and no
pores. It grows on rotten tree roots / stumbs. Since the other trees
are oak, my guess is oak, the rotten tree root is overgrown with moss.
Never collected mushrooms so identifying fungi is not my first priority :)

It is indeed hard to identify the mushroom. My first reaction was it was

Yes, walking around (or cycling) is currently very popular. Theaters,
bars, diners, musea are all closed. Shops are open. If you want a new
or used bicycle your timing isn't the best. In the weekends some parks
and forests are overcrowded if you don't know the good places.

Joe -
I'm not so sure that is turkey tail - it isn't curving up much for one
thing...

- I don't think we have good enough shots,anyway - (from a mycological
point of view ) - to tell that

and , also, the shelves don't look like quite the right shape to me...

and there is no scale, either.. -- remember, too - David is in New
Zealand...

Dave, the general name for a variety of fungi that have that kinda look
is shelf fungus also called bracket fungus.

The only way to tell for sure what a specific species of fungus is
involves taking spore prints. There are only a very
few varieties in the wild that one can be sure of as to what they are
and their edibility without a lot of study.

So, was this big stuff?

I'm curious... I joined the Mycological society of New York back in the
80's for a brief spell mainly for wanting to be able
to ID the fungi I was photographing - then I learned how difficult it
was... I got pretty interested for a while but most of the

members were mainly into the gourmet aspect of it .But I digress.

anyway, I challenge Turkey Tail , as we say in the Scrabble biz :-)

aperture blades, f-stops from 1.2 through 16, and 58mm filter thread.
Glass is clean without any marks. No fungus or dirt. Snappy aperture.
Slight marks of wear on the focus ring, on the bottom when focussed to
infinity, that is where the short distances are printed. Focus is
smooth, probably a tad less on the short end, but far away from rough.
Both caps included. Pictures of the lens and a sample picture on
 request. 85 EUR plus shipping.

Also for sale: An SMC-M 3.5/135, in good shape and technically perfect
state, with both caps and lens case, for 35 EUR plus shipping.

Oh, and I've got an SFXn for sale on ebay:

I always assume mushrooms are poisonous, there are a number of varieties
that are quite edible, which have mimics which will kill you dead
quickly or slowly. I have a friend who's a mycologist, he collects
mushrooms to eat occasionally . If he gets just one he's not sure of in
a batch he throws all of them out.
