RE: PESO:more from my journeys on the MS Silvretta 1981
Markus, Yes I did see your second wave. It reminded me of how I spent my time while not in the operations center. I found it interesting to see the maintenance needed to keep a ship in order. My retorts below... -Original Message- From: Markus Maurer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, August 12, 2004 1:14 AM snip These are nice quarters. When I worked about a ship, on the first one there were four of us sharing a 'room'. When you left the ship you had to I urgently need my privacy, I would not have worked on a ship under those conditions. I have been forced to live like that in the army, that's sufficient... :-) --I must admit that the second time around aboard the ship I had my own quarters since I was then the engineer in charge. Many memories, especially of that stateroom, glad I did it - TWICE! Not sure if I would sign up to do it again - doing double duty as an engineer and a translator was a bit much, especially as we were approached by foreign military vessels :-) You don't want to know what the Army guys first thought was... My one regret while on the project that put me on a couple of ships, was not being able to travel the Panama Canal. I worked at Rodman AB for some time and saw the traffic daily. that's why I posted some more views for a little compensation :-) --And I thank you for it ;-) snip 5 a small town in China, Police and military controlled I never did travel anywhere as exotic with the ship - only Central America. The most beautiful place I have been, everything was extraordinary ;-) --I have not been to Puntarenas. I did visit San Jose and did take a trip to Montezuma on the west coast. Definitely a place I would like to see once again. This was back in 1986. I assume you went into La Ceiba in Honduras? 6 and a cliché shot for the romantic: I recall seeing comets and lightning among the clouds; looking out and not seeing any land; the awesome sunrises and sunsets as I messed around with a harmonica on the back deck. It is very understandable - the call of the water... Take out the harmonica for some sweet memories Cesar, this one is for you: http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=2603876 --Awesome! Reminds me of the time I made an entry in the log book about getting to observe a meteor shower from the bridge - it put things in perspective and how we did not need to stress that which would not have an impact in the world at large. and, don't miss the next waves with photos form the vessel, crew at leisure and seamen baptism and some more landscapes soon in selected Pentax theatres only Markus Thanks again Markus, Cesar Panama City, Florida

Hi Cesar nice to have some memories to share with you. I placed some more photos from Panama this night in wave 3, I hope you have already seen the second wave - crew at work at http://www.photo.net/photodb/presentation.tcl?presentation_id=256444. see comments below: These are nice quarters. Very interesting areas each one - and so different. On the other side, you pay $50 for the Speedo boat and the taxi to New Orleans and back to the ship, an expensive adventure to listen to some Jazz and have a beer! 5 a small town in China, Police and military controlled I never did travel anywhere as exotic with the ship - only Central America. RE: PESO:more from my journeys on the MS Silvretta 1981
Markus: I have always been interested in ships in general, and the people who crew them. It is fascinating, to me, to see the large ships ply the seas. Now, if you have some pictures from, oh, say, the early 1800s, that would be good, too very big grin. Seeing your pictures from your point of view was great on two counts: from a personal interest level, and from the picture's point of view (which I think are pretty good). As for cropping grin, it is YOUR picture; you should decide how it should be presented, and everyone else can either like it or not, at their will. grin (I shall be purchasing a scanner within a couple of weeks; then I can return the PESO.) Thanks! david -Original Message- From: Markus Maurer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, August 07, 2004 12:47 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: PESO:more from my journeys on the MS Silvretta 1981 Hi David Glad you like them. Soon more.., I have to retouch the colors and sharpness, but no cropping here :-) I asked because I have such a strong personal relationsship with the photos than I can not really jugde how interesting they really are for this audience. And, whe recently had the dubious pleasure of been forced of sorts to read some really strange stuff here What exactly do you mean by point of view you are interested in ? Some example pics to show your views? greetings Markus -Original Message- From: David Schneider [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, August 07, 2004 7:45 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: PESO:more from my journeys on the MS Silvretta 1981 Markus: I, for one, really enjoyed the pictures. You captured a point of view I have long been interested in, and, well, I found them very well done and interesting. So, my answer is yes! hi Norm thanks for your email, I am glad that you like the pics. Considering that it was the first time I had a camera in my hands I am a still a bit impressed with the chosen compositions despite the technical shortcomings :-) So, would you like to see more of them? happy pentaxing Markus - From: Norm Baugher [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, August 06, 2004 4:40 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: PESO:more form my journeys on th MS Silvretta 1981 Interesting pictures Markus, thanks for sharing.
