Agreed.

I offer a blanket apology to anyone who didn't appreciate my part in the
latest debate with JCO.

On the other hand, it started out with a misleading, if not false statement
being made, which I attempted to counter.

If one looks for the humour in this, there is some to be found. Some have
referred to the debates with JCO as baiting. While that has occurred to an
extent, I'd compare it more to fishing in a Salmon run during spawning
season. No bait is required, Cast any line with a hook on it and one is
going to snag a fish 9 times out of 10.

Correct on both counts. As long as JCO is on the list, this stuff is
going to happen. I have killfiled him (months ago) and the DVD thread
(as of today), though I acknowledge that no one should *have* to filter
that stuff.

And I learned that my parents can get the multi-region NTSC/PAL DVD

Despite it all, the PDML still rules! :)

Gmail filters are a godsend. I am unable to filter at the server with my
isp, everything just gets dumped when I download my email with my client. By
using gmail in conjunction with my email program, I am able to use gmail as
a server, and filter at that level.
When the mail hits my computer, Outlook Express filters then sort the PDML
stuff to it's own directory.
Someone saying they almost missed an important message because of PDML list
traffic causes my bullshit meter to whack the right side of the scale.

I've felt for a very long time that certain members put a chill on topics,
whether on or off topic ones because of the way they comport themselves on
list.
You've just had a taste of the sour icicle from the sounds of it.
It's too bad when topics are known to be essentially undiscussable, even
though they are on topic, and one never knows when something they post will
end up in a threadjacking.

OK - I'll look into this. I'm using a web based service (Bluebottle) for PDML.
I can't set up subject-based filters through the web interface but the service
allows fetching mail via email clients like Eudora and (hopefully) KMail.

I'll experiment and see what happens.

I only have one e-mail address. But I have set up my e-mail program
with separate mailboxes for each list I am on, and it automatically
stashes them there. This in no way interferes with my main inbox. I
also have a mailbox called bullshit, and certain people's e-mails are
automatically routed there regardless of which list they're posted
to. If I need to wake up, I can get a guaranteed adrenaline boost by
reading a few posts from there.

Mmm maybe using a Gmail address would be easier? That's what I do. I
have only my mailing lists (PDML and another one) on this email
address. I have 18227 mail (99% PDML) nad only uses 20% of my
allocated space (573MB of 2843MB).

I never mix mailing lists and other mails for the very reason you just
gave for unsubscribing. In the end there's always something important
you don't see.

I still think PDML is very useful even if sometimes some (maybe I do
too) do write crap.

I also appreciated much your contributions to this list. I hope you

Sure. I use Eudora for one of my addresses as my email application. I
can set up filters that will search the address, subject line &
message body, either individually or all together, for defined content
(eg. aperture simulator, HDTV, a certain persons name etc) and any
offending message will be transferred to the bit bucket or a specified
folder. I can also set up similar filters at the server level via the

Gmails filters are just as easy to set up.

Hey Butch!

And to everyone else who asked - we don't leave for our ride until June. We
are busily training and fundraising right now. We just got sponsored for a
$25k website! Woohoo!! It should be up in a week or two and then you'll
all be able to give us an online donation! hehe.

Seriously though, it is alot of hard work, organising sponsors and media and
press appearances etc, but I'm getting there! We will be shooting some
photos of us for our website soon, so I'll have to post some and you can see
us wearing all of our sponsors gear!

Thanks for asking guys, and I'll be sure to keep you posted!

I have met tan's nose. It's quite lovely, actually. Now that I think
of it, it quite matches the rest of her (in terms of loveliness).
There, tan, have we completely embarrassed you now, with all this talk
of your lovely nose?

BTW, Peter, since this is all in the open now (and recognizing of
course that we don't know that tan's elective procedure has anything
to do with her nose), when I saw her initial post, I was thinking the
nose thing, too.

Hey, maybe she's got a great huge tatoo that she's never shown any of
us, and she's getting it removed. Wow, it must be a ~big~ one if it's
going to take a week to get rid of it. Or, maybe the procedure is
only taking a couple of hours, and she's just sticking around to do
some shopping for a couple of days.

Nah, that can't be it: our tanya doesn't like shopping .

cheers,
frank
