Re: FA*80-200 mm f/2.8 ED
OK some questions on this beast: What does the PZ/AZ/MODE switch do? How about the pushbutton next to it? Will Pentax still sell me a lens hood for this lens? Has anyone been injured from carrying one of these things around? Has anyone ever used one of these as a defensive weapon? (If so, what was revealed in the autopsy of the attacker?) Could they possibly have made that front element 1/10 of a millimeter larger and still fit it anto a 77mm filter ring? (I doubt it) Mark (Off to shoot some photos and buy some 77mm filters (gulp). John Francis has reported some light fall off at 2.8, and I think he's right, but it's quite slight. You'd be hard pressed to find any other fault with it. Just don't expect to do much hand-held Velvia work with it. I've been tempted to report it to Albano as my favorite lens, but I'm too fond of my FA35/2AL to decide between the two. But you can get some idea of how much I use it by looking at my latest site update; numbers 2, 3, and 5 were all taken with the 80-200/2.8. The PZ/AZ mode switch on the lens controls the auto-zoom and power-zoom functions when using the lens with a PZ series camera. The button next to it is used to select and set the auto-zoom function (Image size tracking, zoom clip and zoom effect). Hope this helps. P. Got it? Great! See below. At 9:16 PM -04008/1/01, Mark Roberts wrote, or at least typed: OK some questions on this beast: What does the PZ/AZ/MODE switch do? How about the pushbutton next to it? PZ = Power Zoom. The switch should be set here when using power zoom (!). AZ = Auto Zoom. For when you want to use Auto Zoom. MODE = Auto zoom Set Okay, the AZ is where your Image Size Tracking, Zoom Clip and Zoom Effect set of features live. I don't have my 80-200/2.8 booklet in front of me, but I'm pretty sure this is how it works: You hold the switch over on MODE and push the button to select which you'd like. Then, when you want to use them, you push the button. I'm sure someone who actually uses these functions will be glad to correct any mistakes I've made here. Will Pentax still sell me a lens hood for this lens? I'm sure they'd be glad to. Has anyone been injured from carrying one of these things around? Real Photographers carry it one-handed. See: http://www.alphoto.com/zuk3.jpg Has anyone ever used one of these as a defensive weapon? (If so, what was revealed in the autopsy of the attacker?) Blunt trauma, I'd think, and some questions about the PZ/AZ/MODE thing. Could they possibly have made that front element 1/10 of a millimeter larger and still fit it anto a 77mm filter ring? (I doubt it) They sure squeezed it in there, didn't they? Mark (Off to shoot some photos and buy some 77mm filters (gulp). Good luck. I hear Singh Rays are good... I really like photo #3. (I like the 100/2.8 macro as well) Doug Brewer [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Seriously, once you start shooting with it, you'll be surprised just how good it is. I called them up and talked about it with them two days ago and their salesman agreed to email me some pictures of it. I got the photos this morning and decided to go for it. Man, this is more than either the Sigma or Tokina 80-200/2.8 costs *new*, but form what I've heard from Doug Brewer and others, it ought to satisfy even a prime lens geek like me. We'll see. Should have it on Wednesday. -- Douglas Forrest Brewer Ashwood Lake Photography [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.alphoto.com - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
