Almost useable because metadata isn't supported (bummer!), because it
won't work with Vista.
It'll work with Win7 including 64bit version, though.

You're welcome ;)

Still, 3 years (or about) that DNG's there and Adobe still can't make
a complete codec but third parties can (and not for free of course)...
sometimes Adobe really are a bunch of morons :(

Looks like the current version has been there since May 3rd of this year.

Still, with the metadata issue, the performance issue, and the
additional functionality, I'm not sure why THIS wouldn't be worth the

I agree Darren, it's just that it is IMO unacceptable that Adobe does
not provide this for free.
Just because they want M$ to support it is no justification and their

Not to worry. I'm still happy with the K-5. Unlike the situation with
the rotten K-7, there's light at the end of the tunnel.

The spot problem isn't so bad that I couldn't use the camera. I'm just
waiting for things to settle down a little so I won't be without a
camera for well over a month which is the current waiting time for an
exchange through Pentax Germany.

Besides, I'm waiting until all bodies made before week 50 in 2010 have
reliably been cleared out of the the system. We keep seeing reports from
people getting replacement cams with spots.

There remain a number of minor issues like the front-focus prob which is
of no concern to me because I don't use autofocus and there are still
too many mushy trigger buttons and unreliable rear thumbwheels. Not to
forget those mysterious stabiliser hick-ups in combination with the live
view.

There is no doubt Hoya-Pentax have a massive QC problem. I suspect
serious underfunding or extreme profit pressure. It's sad to see how all
the good work done by the Pentax engineers is ruined by those controller
boneheads at the Hoya HQ.

What exactly is the front focus problem? I performed the autofocus fine
adjustment for the K-5 and all of my lenses. While some required minor
adjustment, the K-5 came closer as-delivered than either my k20 or K-7. And
those lenses that did require adjustment were pretty much split between front
and rear focus tweaks. BTW, the two lenses that required the most adjustment
were the FA 50/1.4 and the FA35/2. The DA* lenses were very close to dead-nuts
right on.

Oh, I do remember how gloomy and grim you were with K-7.

waiting for things to settle down a little so I won't be without a

I understand. Well, I hope too that given the current situation, I'll
score a brand new camera produced after they've fixed their fabs. At
worst I can always print the official statement from Pentax and go pay a
visit our local service. They are known to be reasonable.

Besides, I'm waiting until all bodies made before week 50 in 2010 have
reliably been cleared out of the the system. We keep seeing reports from

Well, replacement cams are on particular service conscience, so you know...

My understanding that FF problem happens in only some of the cameras and
under specific lighting conditions. And I read on PentaxForums that
allegedly Pentax is working on firmware to solve this. So, this is not
as fatal as stained sensor. I think I used live view less than dozen
times in 1.5 years of owing K-7, so that is not a big deal. As for
wheels and buttons - so far I haven't had any problems (knock on wood of
my head...)

There is no doubt Hoya-Pentax have a massive QC problem. I suspect
serious underfunding or extreme profit pressure. It's sad to see how all

That, unfortunately, is almost certainly true. Even if the number of
complaints is exaggerated by forums and other public media outlets, it
is still not making Pentax any good and I do have full trust in Pentax
engineers, whereas I have full distrust /grin/ in, well, let it be
politically correct this time, certain other departments of the company...

Paul, my (limited) understanding is that under incandescent light (I

other lighting conditions with same lenses, etc. I don't dwell too much

Looks like this extra sensor (+ in Safox denomination) is malfing...
Well, it has to be said that I read someplace in regard to cell phones
that you cannot buy now on the market a perfect device. Either it will
malf, or it will hickup or it will loose its exterior appearance (peeled
finish, etc), which in case of cell phones is a bummer. So, methinks,
would be the case with cameras too.

I'll have to test the K-5 autofocus under tungsten when I have time. I didn't
seem to have a problem with focus in the pool hall, which was largely tungsten
light, although I did have some misses. If it does behave differently under one
kind of light, I would think that might be something that could be fixed with a
firmware upgrade.

Paul, my (limited) understanding is that under incandescent light (I

don't have time for reading anyway, so my knowledge is most basic and
 superficial.

Same here. But a number of people who had been looking forward to put
the K-5's excellent noise and dynamics to good use in no-flash indoor
(theatre, event, etc.) photography are very frustrated.

First it took me an hour and half to get home (normally if traffic is okay
20 to 30 minutes) and I slide a couple of times from all the snow we have
gotten this afternoon and now I have a slight head ache. The reason I
mention all that is I hope the following makes sense.

My K-R, that is to arrive tomorrow afternoon, supposedly has the same issue
under Tungsten Light. There is a filter that I came across on the internet I
believe it was an 80a that causes Tungsten light to be more natural light so
I wonder if that would help with the issues of the FF.

An interesting thought! Of course, you'd lose 4 stops of light which would
