Ah that makes sense about the bridge cameras. I had just never seen that term
before. I definitely want something a little more than that though.

I was trying to stick with just shooting film, but I'll end up shooting

The definition I'm used-to is that bridges are those SLR lookalikes with
built-in (ie non-detachable) zoom lenses. They "bridge" the dSLR models
to the compact P&S offerings.

Like Oly's C- series prosumer cameras. The C-8080 was one of the best.

I own several examples of both marques, film and digital, but I don't know of a
comparable Pentax camera, or I'd have mentioned it.

The K100D Super also gives you a bit of "future-proofing" for Pentax
glass. It is the earliest low-end Pentax dSLR to support SDM lenses. I
use mine with the DA* 50-135 and the DA* 16-50 and love 'em both.

When I get either a K20D or K30D in the next few months I'll be able to
use those lenses on both bodies.

Nick -- I had a K100D (not super), and liked it very much. Similar to
Pentax's film cameras, so the adjustment won't be that big in going from film

digital. It was a very nice size and took splendid shots.

I only sold it because I had two systems, had more lenses for the second
system and decided to go with it. Maintaining two systems proved too costly (I

Yes, but they are still in business. They will just reorganize. The
istDL is a 6 mpxl camera with pretty good high iso quality. I used to
use mine at 3200 with very acceptable results. Also, it works with IR
filters a 1000 percent better than the K10/K20. It also does really good
B&W's. It is significantly smaller and lighter than the K10/20 versions
as well.

Re: Looking for d-SLR body

2009-02-24 Thread Walter Hamler
Yes, but they are still in business. They will just reorganize.
The istDL is a 6 mpxl camera with pretty good high iso quality. I used
to use mine at 3200 with very acceptable results. Also, it works with
IR filters a 1000 percent better than the K10/K20. It also does really
good B&W's.
It is significantly smaller and lighter than the K10/20 versions as well.

The Ritz that just filed for bankruptcy?

I'm curious why you say the ist-dl makes a good camera for newspaper work?

Thanks.

A friend just ordered a Pentax istDL with kit lens from Ritz on line
for about 260.00. It is brand new with warranty.

It's a good camera to start with, especially for newspaper work.
