As I wait for the K-3 price to drop, I figure I might as well enable
myself in another area. And I've finally found a good deal on just the
guitar I've been lusting for:

http://www.flickriver.com/photos/walt_gilbert/11999890806/

It's a '72 Fender Telecaster Thinline Re-Issue. Ain't she purdy?

I figure she'll be arriving at my doorstep in about two weeks.

Re: OT: New Toy Enablement

Thanks, Frank! You are correct!

Unless I'm mistaken, the '72 Thinline was the first Tele to come with
dual humbuckers, and they were discontinued after about three years.

And, based on what I've heard in demo videos, it retains a surprising
amount of the Telecaster twang despite the humbuckers, but still has the
warmer, throatier sound than you'd get with the standard Tele setup.

Fender had a bit of a spate of humbuckers in the early 70s. The Deluxe
also had them from '72. Here's mine, an original '73 model with the
Marshall custom shop '67 Bluesbreaker amp that I won in the local
hospice raffle:
http://www.mitch.myzen.co.uk/MarshallAmp/slides/_IMG4720.html

You're right, the humbuckers still produce the Tele twang in the
middle selector position and the thinline hollow body adds a bit of
acoustic resonance as well. I think you'll enjoy it!

I've just got a little 30-watt Behringer practice amp with digital

Re: OT: New Toy Enablement

The Telecaster Thinline was introduced in '69 with standard Telecaster
pickups. The '72 model was the last year of the original production &
was a Telecaster Deluxe model with the Wide Range pickups.

Re: OT: New Toy Enablement

Thanks for the clarification, John.

From what I gather, the reissue humbuckers are just a tad warmer than
the original WRHB. Still, based on what I've heard in the demos, they
come pretty close.

I bought the Tele second hand in 1974 so it was nearly new. Cost me
250 GBP I recall.

I posted the back-story for the amp back in the summer. It's a good
story - I can go through it again if you contact me off list.
