Hey North Carolina! The Oklahoma just called and they said they'd like
their tornado season back now.

Stony Brook is about a mile and a half from here. That's probably the
one I heard.

I've since gotten some additional information from the local NPR
station by way of the BBC. Shaw University - about 3 miles south of me
- got hit hard and is shutting down for the rest of the semester.

From what I can figure out, most of the rest of the severe damage is
down in eastern NC; east of I-95.

This guy is super calm as a tornado comes right by him. Doesn't appear
to realize that if one of those pieces of debris that damages his
vehicle had come through his window at over 150mph he could be
seriously injured or dead. He doesn't think it is very powerful, but
doesn't know how deceiving looks can be.

This is pretty crazy local news coverage of a rain-wrapped tornado
coming almost directly at the camera:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srwtn-Zjv_E
You can see power flashes as the embedded tornado shorts-out
transformers on power poles.

The building where the camera is located is about 8 blocks south of my
house. The 4 lane road right in the center of the video is South
Saunders St.

Shaw University is just a little to the left of the BB&T building shown
in the video.

Came down to Asheboro after I got off work to make my weekly check on my

but no context to tell me where the subdivisions are located.

Local newspaper has close up images of damaged buildings, but no captions to

Not names for streets that are closed.

From the New York Times...

"There were 92 tornadoes reported across North Carolina on Saturday
night. At least 14 people were killed and 50 seriously injured in
Bertie, N.C., according to state officials. Major avenues in
downtown Raleigh were blocked by fallen trees. A Lowe’s store, in
Lee County, above, was damaged extensively."
