There's a nationwide chain of them here. The nearest Apple-branded store to me

out with the computer under my arm rather than let them touch it.
Basically it was a Mac sales/service rep who hates Macs. I was told that
if a Mac breaks then you usually have to throw it out and buy a new one,
and they really didn't think they could fix my screen. When I tried to
buy a few accessories (like cables, a Superdrive and memory), nothing
was in stock and they wanted payment in advance before they would order

piped in at that point and told him that *I* knew what a Drobo was, as I

So, in desperation I took my iMac to the Apple Store. This time I was
noticed right off and someone even carried the thing to the Genius Bar

diagnostics and an estimate for the repair right off. It will be ready
for pick up by the end of the week. I told the guy I wanted a Superdrive

to GIVE me the Superdrive!

I walked out of there a very happy camper.

I always had super support at the Apple Store in Kansas City. In particular,
many hours over several days tracking down and fixing an overheating problem
with my wife's MacBook. I did often need to go on-line at 12:01 a.m. to get an

You're supposed to make an appointment for repairs at an Apple store. If you'd

Re: OT: speaking of computer tales of woe...

2013-09-15 Thread David Mann
Man, that stinks. I felt really bad after putting a scratch on my expensive
new sports watch within 4 days but at least I didn't get glass in my head.
(The banana is another story.)

We had an iMac at my last job which had its glass cracked by being hit against
something while being moved. The boss picked up a cheap monitor, switched on
display mirroring and turned the computer towards the wall. Not sure if he had
a repair quote or simply assumed it'd be too expensive.

Cheers,
Dave

Yikes! Makes my hard drive odyssey seem tame in comparison.

I have a 27" iMac at work now and I really like that machine. Here's
to a speedy recovery for you both.
