As some of you know, my camping equipment doesn't exactly qualify as competent. So I'm looking at a new tent. Other than GFM once or twice a year, we (wife and two kids) will probably use it another time or two per year. Doesn't need to be light weight. Lots of head room would be preferable. Any reason I shouldn't go for a Coleman? I'm currently looking at a Coleman Weathermaster Cabin tent. Any other suggestions on tent style, brand, etc.? Years ago, I bought a Cabela's 8 man Alaskan Guide tent. It was a bit pricey, but I have never regretted the purchase. The only thing I don't like about it is that the door is pretty much a crawl in. http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?cmView=fulltype=podid=0006263 One of the vestibules is a must have item as well. Thanks, Walt. I was actually looking at one of these: http://www.coleman.com/coleman/colemancom/detail.asp?product_id=9232C129categoryid=11020 Wally World's price on the Red Canyon is certainly attractive. I'll consider it. Thanks again. That said, I still prefer Motel 6 !! Thanks, Bill. How long does it take you to set it up? How big is it when it's packed? The 8 man tent is in a pack about 1 foot in diameter by about 3 feet. It weighs some 35 pounds, so it is definitely a drive it to where you will be using it kind of tent. It is best set up by 2 people (I'm not sure one pserson could set it up, actually), my wife and I were able to set it up in about 20 minutes. The nice thing about it is that it is 6'6' tall at the peak. The 6 person tent is probably the better compromise overall for a robust family tent. The wife and I, with two very small girls, might have it set up in a hour or two. Aren't children fun? I think I need a tent that can be erected by one person in 30 seconds without even trying. The nice thing about it is that it is 6'6' tall at the peak. The 6 person tent is probably the better compromise overall for a robust family tent. This is definitely a requisite. The more headroom the better. I spend most of my life bent over - picking up children, going to work, etc. - I'd rather be comfortable when I'm camping. Thanks, Bill. That leaves mine out. One of those grab the centre head, pull and presto. It says it sleeps four, but with Frank as a roomy and me having to scare bears, two is plenty.:-) Dave The nice thing about it is that it is 6'6' tall at the peak.
