Re: PDML Book update and expenses
Mark, I wonder if there is any way to capitalize on the Boston Marathon next week...? Dana-Farber fields a large team of runners every year to help them fund-raise (this is my brother's 3rd year on the team), maybe there is a sales opportunity there somewhere? Of course, time is short now, but it's a thought for the future, anyway... -c On Sat, Apr 9, 2011 at 9:20 AM, Mark Roberts m...@robertstech.com wrote: Daniel J. Yeah, I think I paid 24 US bucks when the US$ was actually worth something for two of his newsletters. I didn't think it was good value. And no, Mike was not good enough to refund money to me when he bailed on his newsletter. Sounds like the NY Times. I got an email from them recently they're going to start charging a subscription for access to their web content. My first thought was were they going to do the same thing they did last time, i.e. abandon the idea when they don't get enough paid subscribers? After I'd paid for my annual subscription, they dropped the idea and went back to providing free content, but did not refund anything to those of us who had subscribed, nor provided any extra content to paid subscribers. Since I didn't get anything for my paid subscription last time, I'm not subscribing this time. They need me more than I need them. - No virus found in this message. Re: PDML Book update and expenses
Ideas for places to advertise the book: We should, of course, send word to Ned, and press releases to the major online photo blogs. It probably would not hurt to send emails of the press releases to the dead tree photo mags either. Are there any sort of pediatric oncology trade journals, professional websites etc? I wonder of Pentax USA would be willing to buy some to sell at trade shows? They'd get a tax writeoff, a great way to show off the abilities of the gear, good PR etc. If they buy in on the concept, it could be worth it to them to have more than a few printed, which could greatly lower the cost per book. Someone should set up a facebook event for selling them. Events are the easiest way on facebook to get the word out to a lot of people, and it seems that most people younger than 40 have facebook accounts, albeit with a fairly steep dropoff in age for folks over 50. I wonder if anyone has the chops to make a short video to post on youtube about it? We should ask Craig Shergold, who was a childhood cancer survivor, to send out an email asking people to buy a copy. Jack Davis wrote: This stat has likely been related, but how many 2009/2010 books were sold? The total sold for the first two books is around 250, including both direct sales through Blurb and batches I've bought and sold in person at events like GFM. I small number, but then we've had little promotion. I hope to achieve more promotion and a lot more sales with the 2011 book. This is the first edition of the book that I've felt looked like a polished, truly professional product, so I'm a lot more comfortable blowing our collective horn about it. I'm also going to be more persistent in asking PDMLers to try to promote it in their own locales ;-) I'll write up a generic press release that you can customize for your own location.
