Hi Christine Photography for Moms could be the title of the Saturday morning class I teach at the community college. They called it Taking Better Photos with your Digital Camera. But 98% of the people that sign up are moms. There are one or two guys in about half of the class sessions, but they are usually there because their wife signed them up as a couple. Someday I'm going to write up all of the different scenarios and make them available as a downloadable pdf for the students. But you know how someday is. It always seems to be a few days in the future. gs George Sinos www.GeorgesPhotos.net www.GeorgeSinos.com On Mon, Jun 17, 2013 at 2:24 PM, Christine Nielsen ch...@inielsen.net wrote: I like the photo, and the blather! Re: PESO - The Dance Recital
Hi Frank - The recitals do go on and on. This one was very well organized and there were only a few seconds between groups of dancers. As one group danced off to stage left, the next was dancing on from stage right. She really kept things moving. Even so, It started at noon and I had to leave at 3:30 to go to another event. My daughter told me it ended about 4:15. It's funny how you seldom hear people complain about going to see a 3-hour movie or sitting through 24 T-ball or soccer games, but the once-a-year recital seems to bother a lot of people. I always thought kids in the arts get cheated compared to the kids in sports. The kids in sports get weekly (or more) chances to put the skills they practice into a game. The kids in music or dance practice all year long and get maybe one or two recitals a year. The poor kids in art class have it even worse. Most of them go for years with little more public display of their art than their Mother's refrigerator. If the kids in the arts got as much feedback and positive reinforcement early in their development as the sports kids we might have greater appreciation for the arts by more adults. Stepping down from my soapbox now. GS George Sinos www.GeorgesPhotos.net www.GeorgeSinos.com On Mon, Jun 17, 2013 at 6:25 PM, knarftheria...@gmail.com knarftheria...@gmail.com wrote: Oh man! I Just bought one from Sunset Electronics thru Amazon - $364.95. I used a Coolpix 5700 years ago on the job and enjoyed it except that for action shots and the delay of the electronic view finder. I had a lot of fun with that camera. This photo was shot with an old Canon S90. They've come out with two or three improved versions since I bought it, but this one seems to do well most of the time. When you're in extreme conditions like the dance recital you can't enlarge the photo much. The grain at 1600 or above is the size of small pebbles. As much as I hate to ask this ... my Canon A60 is getting a little long in the tooth. I think Canon was the last brand to still manufacture a compact PS camera with a *REAL* viewfinder. Does anyone know what that last viewfinder equipped Canon PS was? Or other suggestions for a compact PS with a viewfinder? Could be an electronic viewfinder for all I care, as long as I don't have to hold the damn thing out at arms length to try and compose a photograph on the little TV screen on the back. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- -bmw -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
RE: PESO - The Dance Recital
Oh man! Memories of my three as they made their way through Miss Ewald's Dance Academy! She was stern but fair. ;-) And because everybody and every class got a turn, one had to sit through an hour and a half of the other parents' irrepressibly cute kids 'til yours comes on for forty seconds of prancing. Then another hour of others' kids because it would be rude to leave early. Those were the days... ;-) Well that's a fine document of such an event, George. And despite my tongue in cheek recollections doesn't one feel proud as punch when your little Pavlova is up there being a swan? As you should because she did GREAT! Terrific photo! cheers, frank --- Original Message --- From: George Sinos gsi...@gmail.com Sent: June 17, 2013 6/17/13 To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List pdml@pdml.net Subject: PESO - The Dance Recital A snapshot of my cute Granddaughter and a lot of blather about improving your chances of getting a better photo under poor lighting. This was taken with my compact point-n-shoot because professional cameras weren't allowed. My guess is they want you to buy the official photographs. They don't allow video either. You can buy the official video, too. http://georgesinos.com/blog/2013/6/15/the-dance-recital gs George Sinos www.GeorgesPhotos.net www.GeorgeSinos.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
