I agree the sheer mass makes it more stable. :-) It might be a question of a technique I haven't discovered yet, but I find it cumbersome to support the weight in my hands while paying attention to both the manual stop-down and the focus. Not only because of the weight, but also because it's a manual aperture lens. I would have needed an extra hand. I have used my 500mm/4.5 SMCT lens with 400 film HANDHELD on many occasions. Just make sure you use 1/500 shutter speed or faster. Hi Frank, Thanks for looking and commenting! The sky on the last shot is actually a bank of fog coming against me. The scene was back-lit, but not by a sunset.
