Thanks for your kind remarks, Jack and Paul. Although this is one of my favorite images, I think it may have been viewed as trite. Nice shot. Better than the majority of landscapes in the gallery. I think when a pic sits that long it means it passed peer review but was rejected by the gallery gods. Jack, I'm paying for a premium ATT broadband connection here. The initial splash page takes 5 seconds or so to load. I brought up 10 recent additions in 32 seconds, one after another. Re: PPG quota
Jostein, On occasion, somebody here will link to the gallery for a photo. I watch it post a gallery header page then spin up more internally. Finally, it will look like it is going to open something, but no, wait, just kidding, not yet! When a picture opens it is nice. I went thru all 100 of yours and they are beautiful (and a major accomplishment). But I'm on a high speed line in the USA suburbs and the gallery is too slow. It's in the design on the Pentax side, not in the internet distribution side. Regards, Bob S. Re: PPG quota
Rick, You're not connecting via dialup or mobile 3G by any chance? I really don't recognise your description... I didn't join the foray until half a year after the first invitations went out. I had read a lot of bitching from many on this list over the interface, and was very skeptical to begin with. In fact, I wrote to Pentax and suggested some improvements, both on the gallery display and the voting page. A few were incorporated too, along with other changes to improve the interface speed over time. I joined in June, btw, and the beta stage ended in September 2007. Further improvements were made later that autumn, and I don't think it's that bad anymore. I may have grown used to it too, of course. Last Thursday, btw, a colleague at work praised the site's convenient interface for browsing images. Without any encouragement from me except providing the link. A digital keyboard is played and recorded digitally to an old Macintosh, where is shows up as elongated dots and lines on a Mac screen. It's then transferred to a 5 1/4 floppy with peeling label as an analog file (didn't show how) and that is fed into an old Apple ] [ with dual floppies and a green screen Apple monitor just like in the the 1979 ads for same. The Apple ][ runs the machine that stamps the tunes through 18 layers of the thin oilskin-like paper. The words to the song are printed on the paper from a master that is created with an old machine that looked like a large Dymo-writer, except it punched through the master 3" canvas-like tape. So 32 years after it was introduced, an Apple ][ is still controlling an industrial machine. Huzaa! Under contract, I once produced an 8 bit board for Apple ][s that along with the Basic program I wrote tested continuity on Southern Bell (BellSouth) cable breakout fixtures with 6 punch down blocks and 4 short RS-232 cables as they came to the end of the assembly line. It worked great, but paid me little money, of course. Odds are it is no longer running. Nothing is perfect, Rick. The Pentax Photo Gallery is a wonderful display of interesting images. It is well worth participating in. I am often frustrated when they reject one of my favorite images, or take a long time to "review" one, but I enjoy looking at the collection and the other entries, and I am grateful that Pentax spent the time and money to create and maintain it. Re: PPG quota
I filled in the data form for a PPG account shortly after it opened a few years ago. Then, I read here and elsewhere about the ridiculous review system, which has only gotten more ridiculous. I tried to look at people's photos, and found the interface to be slower than an Apple II in Job's garage. "Screw this", I said, and have never uploaded anything. When the very few PDMLers who post things to the PPG post PESOs there, I usually run out of patience wth the incredibly slow interface long before I've seen the photos. Re: PPG quota
Okay, I get it now ... we have a quota of 10 per week. I was not paying attention when I uploaded something like 9 photos and came back a day later to find there was only 1 box available. Still tames the beast :-) On Thu, Aug 27, 2009 at 7:44 AM, Bong Manayon wrote: > After a long spell, I uploaded something in PPG and discovered that we > now have a quota of 1 upload a week. Re: PPG quota
Sorta glad they're doing this. Probably won't completely discourage someone uploading 27 water droplet images, but will only make it a little less convenient. I hope they're considering a monthly quota..or some such. Jack --- On Thu, 8/27/09, Daniel J. Matyola wrote: > From: Daniel J. Sasha: I sent in your name and email address to PPG in accordance with their instructions. They should send you a photographer ID that will allow you to register. They don't seem to be responding as quickly as they once did. Re: PPG quota
It seems that PPG is now limiting each submitter to 10 images "UnderReview." Previously, there were ten input boxes when you went to the "unload" page, and you could submit more than one page (10 photos) at a time. Now, you are limited to one page. When I went to upload today, there were nine input boxes instead of the usual 10. This appears to be because I have one image that has been sitting in the "Submission Complete" section for several weeks, although photos I submitted at the same time or weeks later have been "declined." I wasn't able to submit any new images until I had cleaned out the "Declined" section by deleting the photos that were still there.
