Re: Pentax Confirms Full Frame DSLR - Photokina 2014.

2014-09-19 Thread John
I had a bit of a windfall earlier this year so I was able to buy the K-3
without having to plunder my savings against the day ... if it ever came.

By the time it actually shows up at my local pusher I might be able to
afford it. I've got lenses I expect I'll be able to use - FA50/1.4,
FA43/1.9 Limited, FA77/1.8 Limited and A100/2.8 Macro, along with a
Tokina ATX-Pro 80-200/2.8.

Maybe if things work out I'll have the Tokina ATX-Pro 28-70/2.8 repaired
& working again.

All of them are 'A' lenses with the aperture ring, so I'm good to go
whether it has the aperture simulator or not.

A PDMLer mentioned that the FF would be released under the RICOH Brand
Name.
This article clearly states that it is going to be a Pentax, and that
some new lenses are on the way too.

So some peace of mind and rejoicing for Pentax Lovers.

Enjoy.

I don't know how much credence you can put in journalistic endeavors
that get basic facts wrong. I guess we can believe what they wrote, even
though this won't be Pentax's first full frame DSLR, the late lamented
and almost forgotten, or so it seems MR-52, a FF 6mp, often refereed to
as the MZ-D and at least once re-branded as the K-1, was probably mere
months from a formal announcement and full production. It was probably
scuttled by three things, 1 and 2 Canon and Kodak both announced at
Photokina that year, 11mp and 14mp full frame DSLRs, that would have
sold for less than Pentax could probably produce, let alone sell the
camera for, and 2 the Philips CCD the camera was to built around was
problematic at best, which probably killed Contax/Yashica, when they
decided to go forward with production.

There were supposed to be at least 6 hand built prototypes that were in
circulation for testing and maybe more that never made it out of a
Pentax facility. If the cameras never made it out a R*D lab, I couldn't
count them, but this almost made it into the wild.

Sadly none here. The FF boat has sailed...

I still don't believe it will happen. I can't see how it can under the
current Pentax strategies.

2014-09-19 Thread Paul Stenquist
If you read the article you’ll see that Pentax only confirmed that they’re
working on a 24 x 36 camera. Of course they are. They didn’t say they were
going to offer it for sale. Another scribe who attended the same interview
reported on Pentax Forum that release would depend on market conditions. I hope
they do market the camera, and I will probably buy one although I don’t really
need it. New toys are always fun, but I won’t lose any sleep over it.
