Re: Photo Contest
Hi tim, This is what the calendars look like if you are curious: http://digi-labs.net/ Basically we don't get a penny for putting up this contest, we give a little publicity to the vendor and they sponsor something nice for our members. That's the whole deal. al Timothy Sherburne wrote: Ann... Just to be fair, one has to "join" PDML in order to participate in PUG, and those donations go to support the website and pay for the prizes. So what you win is one different image on each of 5 calendars, not an image a page, it appears. And you have to "join" and a $25 donation is suggested to be a member. Not so appealing to me, at least. Just my 2 cents annsan
Re: Photo Contest
1) The contest is for 5 flower images, so you can show a little thought and put together a series of decent images. Any gimp can take one decent image by accident but putting together a mini portfolio is more of a challenge and perhaps will help show a bit of your visual style. 2) You can put whatever images you want to on your calendar if you win. The choice of images for your calendar is up to you and not related to the contest. You can and will be able to put an image per page on your calendar if you win. 3) Joining usefilm.com is free. 4) Participating in the contest is free. 5) The donations have nothing to do with this contest, they are for members who use and enjoy the site to help defray the costs of hosting a large site. They are completely VOLUNTARY. Hope that cleared everything up. al Ann Sanfedele wrote: Al Shaikh wrote: I thought you guys might like a little contest. And you got a free copy of the book and the mag if you were honorable mention or better. Re: photo contest--Is this one legit?
Paul... Completely legit. Comm Arts is a trade publication that comes out every year. It is used by designers and others in the advertising/publishing world as a way of sharing ideas and scouting talent. My wife works for a print broker and they use Comm Arts all the time. Very nice book actually. The photography is, of course, fantastic as it's all been published although they do have an Unpublished section for students. I look forward to thumbing through it every year. Brendan MacRae - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions. Re: photo contest--Is this one legit?
Paul... Comm Arts is basically a trade publication. My wife works at a printing broker and they use Comm Arts for ideas for designers that come to them with projects...designers on their own use it all the time. It's a very nice piece. I look forward to thumbing through it every year. The photography is, of course, outstanding, because it's all been published (although they have an Unpublished category as well for students).
