Re: Time Management - Actual Photography vs Reading PDML Mail
Bipin, I solve this "issue" in a rather simple manner: 1. I have a very portable Ricoh GXR camera with me at all times during the day. So I take pictures whenever I feel like it. 2. I prune my PDML inbox from my cell phone from wherever I am. 3. I don't read all PDML message but only those that I think are interesting to me... Many a time the number of mails on the same topic was overwhelming, with little or no inputs to stimulate his grey cells and his photography. Perhaps we can ponder on this issue with ways to prune down the number of "non-issue" mails that help only to fatten up the Inbox. The British call it "cotton wooling". Bob, i realise that's partly said tongue in cheek and while true, that's not the whole story. true that 'modern' capitalist economy has only made worse traditional imbalances (which were/ are quite bad). the number of new shiny audis, bmws, porsches and mercs on the road (all of them have factories here now except porsche i think) is practically obscene given the large and visible number of people living under what the government euphemistically describes as the 'poverty line'. as in modern democracies elsewhere, the government seems to gift away vast swathes of national resources rather cheaply to corporations to the benefit of a few individuals directly and the short-term benefit of the middle-classes indirectly. the number of kick-back scams in the last two years alone has been unbelievable. all that is depressing no doubt. but like i said that's not the whole story. dslrs, why even cameras, were unaffordable once. my first ever camera was a digital p&s which i bought at the age of 42 and i bought myself my first dslr four years later (the *ist DS). it's not that bad now. there is a huge and rising middle-class population with money to throw around (about 500 million at the last count; not too sure of the figures). nikon, canon and sony are everywhere. but pentax can be got only through the grey market and if anything goes wrong, you are on your own. from what i can see, the k-x seems to have brought in more people to the fold than any other new pentax dslr -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

RE: Time Management - Actual Photography vs Reading PDML Mail
That's why we have subject lines. So we can filter out the crap. That's why we never look at a gallery by Larry because we know it will feature about 357 photos and take 42 minutes to scroll through. And more seriously, the beauty of the email is that we can turn off our computer, actually leave the house with a camera, take pictures for a whole day or more and then when we come back everything on pdml will still be there; we won't have missed a thing. I don't understand how being active on pdml takes time away from photography any more than any other activity would. Seems to me that it's about priorities and choices and they have nothing to do with this list specifically. I wrote back telling him that there is already a very interesting one called PDML. He agreed, but said that he was once a member of PDML but spent too much time reading PDML mail in his Inbox, and less time on his actual photography. I may have stirred the hornets nest, but I took a sincere and calculated risk to highlight this issue to all of you. I beg pardon.
