Re: What's an LX worth?
It was the least expensive of all the Pentax 135 K-mount lenses. Some of the elements aren't multi-coated. The supply of these lenses exceeds the demand, so they are not worth a lot. Others have reported getting good results with the lens as well, but it's only forth around $50 US. I'd start the auction at $30 tops. Or I'd keep the lens. I sufferers by comparison to the SMC P 135mm f2.5 which is legendary. Asahi originally used the Takumar name on their top line of lenses back in the M42 mount days. When the K mount lenses were introduced they changed the lens line name to Pentax. The Takumar bayonet lenses were their bargain line, most were made by third party manufactures and lacked the SMC coatings. The Takumar Bayonet 135 f2.5 is probably an all right lens, quite a few members of this list have used and liked it. But it's not as sharp, since it doesn't have SMC it's flare resistance suffers, it's not as well built, and it has those silly colored f stop markings (God what were they thinking when they did that). See?? This is why people should _use_ a lens, look at the results, and then decide whether _they_ like it or not. All reputation aside, I like the Tak Bayonet 135/2.5 very much for tight portraits. The wide open 'softness' is perfect for this. I definitely won't let it get the sun in its eye though, it flares, a _lot_. I found it to be a great portrait lens and my example was clearly not as soft (even wide open) as some would suggest. Never tried it on digital, so I can't say if it would have CA problems. -- Christian http://photography.skofteland.net Godfrey DiGiorgi wrote: I paid $27 for a Takumar Bayonet Mount 135/2.5 in EXC shape from KEH.com. The supply of these lenses exceeds the demand, so they are not worth a lot. Others have reported getting good results with the lens as well, but it's only forth around $50 US. I'd start the auction at $30 tops. Or I'd keep the lens. Paul On Oct 5, 2006, at 6:35 AM, J and K Messervy wrote: What's wrong with the Takumar bayonet lens? Re: What's an LX worth?
Sell the camera and lenses individually: three auctions. Start the camera with a first bid of $300 and no reserve. Based on your description, I'm not sure what lenses you're talking about. If your 35 is the SMC Pentax bayonet mount, I'd start it at $60, if it's the screwmount, $40. If your 135/2.5 is the SmC Takumar screwmount (either of the two varieties available), I'd start it at $125. If it's an earlier screwmount, I'd start it at $60. The camera might bring $400 if you're lucky. I'm not putting this up for sale yet, but was wondering if those in the know could give me an estimate of the kind of price I should realistically aim for with the LX. It's in great condition and I'll be selling it with a SMC 35mm f3.5 manual focus and a Asashi Takumar 135mm f2.5 manual focus. Both lenses perfect. I was thinking something in the region of $400 AUD (approx $300 USD). Any suggestions as to price?
