Honest question: Isn't that the same thing as saying The K-mount era?
I ask because in my mind, the change from top quality Taks and budget Taks
occurred when the switch was made to the K-mount.
Then the SMC Pentax took over as top dog in the quality department,

Isn't that transformation when the Takumar name was resurrected?

I'll welcome support or refutation... Right now that's how I've come to

Ah yes, the Bayonet series Takumars.
It's been said they're not quite up to the quality of the M42 Takumars, tho'.
That's only hearsay, taken from messages on this list, not something I've read
in a reference book.

For instance, my M42 S-M-C Takumar 135mm f/2.5 has 5 elements in 4 groups,
with a 6-blade aperture, while my Takumar Bayonet 135mm f/2.5 has 4 elements
in 4 groups, with a 8 blade aperture.
The Bayonet's lenses are coated, but are not SMC.
Seems they might perform differently, but I've done no critical testing of the
sisters...

I got mine for ~$25 as well and really, really liked it. Sure it isn't

Back to the issue of the LX body, this is a highly desired item if in
excellent condition and recently serviced... Completed auctions on eBay show
recent sales at $830, $303, $544, $237, $316, $290, and $598. In 1991 I
bought a new LX from Camera World of Oregon: body only $599.85 plus $109.85
for the FA1w finder, total $719.70. If in new condition I could probably
sell it for that now...

That's my understanding too, Keith. The Super Takumars and SMC Takumars in
screw mount were reaching to be the best, aiming at Zeiss. With transition
to K-mount, there was an interest in a few budget lenses, using the old
Takumar name. I think the first was the simplified Takumar version of the
fine SMC Pentax 2.5/135, and I believe there were a couple others, then
several more recently.

This is why people should _use_ a lens, look at the results, and then decide
whether _they_ like it or not.
All reputation aside, I like the Tak Bayonet 135/2.5 very much for tight
portraits.
The wide open 'softness' is perfect for this.
I definitely won't let it get the sun in its eye though, it flares, a _lot_.
That's when the SMCP 135/2.5 gets the job. ;-)

I sufferers by comparison to the SMC P 135mm f2.5 which is legendary.
Asahi originally used the Takumar name on their top line of lenses back
in the M42 mount days. When the K mount lenses were introduced they
changed the lens line name to Pentax. The Takumar bayonet lenses were
their bargain line, most were made by third party manufactures and
lacked the SMC coatings. The Takumar Bayonet 135 f2.5 is probably an
all right lens, quite a few members of this list have used and liked
it. But it's not as sharp, since it doesn't have SMC it's flare
resistance suffers, it's not as well built, and it has those silly
colored f stop markings (God what were they thinking when they
 did that).

As it is the Takumar Bayonet, great demand may not be there, I am
 afraid. The LX however... :-)

I suggest that you do a search on eBay for completed listings for
these items to get an idea of prices.

 Good luck!

I've started my auction at AUD375. The camera's only flaw is the glass in
the viewfinder eyepiece is loose. It doesn't affect the operation in any
way, so I've not bothered fixing it.

I haven't had the body serviced but there is not sign of sticky mirror and
the 6 or so rolls I've put through it have been great. It is genuinely in
excellent condition and working perfectly.

Back to the issue of the LX body, this is a highly desired item if in
excellent condition and recently serviced... Completed auctions on eBay
 show
 recent sales at $830, $303, $544, $237, $316, $290, and $598. In 1991 I
bought a new LX from Camera World of Oregon: body only $599.85 plus
 $109.85
for the FA1w finder, total $719.70. If in new condition I could probably
 sell it for that now...

I've used mine on the LX and DL, mostly for portraits of my wife and kids
and I've been very happy with it, even wide open.

I got mine for ~$25 as well and really, really liked it. Sure it isn't
SMC, but unless you shoot into the sun, flare was not an issue (built in
lens hood!). I found it to be a great portrait lens and my example was
clearly not as soft (even wide open) as some would suggest. Never tried
it on digital, so I can't say if it would have CA problems.

It was the least expensive of all the Pentax 135 K-mount lenses. Some

I'd start the auction at $30 tops. Or I'd keep the lens.

Sell the camera and lenses individually: three auctions. Start the
camera with a first bid of $300 and no reserve. Based on your
description, I'm not sure what lenses you're talking about. If your 35
is the SMC Pentax bayonet mount, I'd start it at $60, if it's the
screwmount, $40. If your 135/2.5 is the SmC Takumar screwmount (either
of the two varieties available), I'd start it at $125. If it's an
earlier screwmount, I'd start it at $60. The camera might bring $400 if
you're lucky.

It's in great condition and I'll be selling it with a SMC 35mm f3.5

 perfect. I
was thinking something in the region of $400 AUD (approx $300 USD).
 Any
