The USM lenses would be called DA*; and none of those displayed were

I don't think there is any official annoucement of USM lens yet.

You may well be right. Please note, however, that those eight images
are part of the first indented paragraph under the heading ThE lATEST

A different qwuestion is if it is likely that just those eight lenses

I think a macro would benefit of it. Usually a macro lens as a long
(sometimes very long) focussing ramp (for obvious reasons). In this
case, if SSM is supposed to be faster, then yes it would benefit a
lot. My SMC 100/3.5 macro which I quite like is difficultto be used as
a normal lens because of very slow focussing, simply because the
time it takes to turn the whole focussing thing is huge.

BTW I find an FA 50/1.4 should benefit of it, it also has quite a long
focussing ramp.

I've been looking at this one more time.

They way it is written strongly indicate that it's not a typo. It goes
something like this: We know that the final version of the camera will make
16 bit raw files.

So it looks like either misinformation, a marketing hype (deliberate
misinformation, or conflicting information.

My point is; the sentence strongly suggests that they have a source for this
information.

Well if the poster on the DP Review message board is right, all the
pre-production prototypes in circulation will have firmware far too
old for 16-bit RAW. We're really going to have to wait for production

Mark, the text says that test version they could look at for three
hours were not finished enough to deliver useful test images. “We
know that the final version will deliver 16-bit raw files.” Where did
you see the Sep 11 stuff?

I received the printed version of the mag with the K10D preview on
the 14th, that's perfect timing, if any! Their conclusion is very
positive; “Pentax has created a very strong competitor to Nikon,
Canon, Sony and Olympus, with the reservation that we have not seen
any images from the camera. We don't really expect it will make
photographers convert, but for someone who is buying a new system,
there is much in favor of the Pentax, especially with the low price
in mind.”

The same issue of KB also have a review of the K110D which is also
very supportive. “Best among the low priced.” A sensible choice,
simply put.

Things are looking good for Pentax right now. Eight supersonic lenses
coming up. Now, where is that medium format camera?

Swedish mag is claiming that K10D RAW files will be 16-bit color.
Apparently they're claiming that all extant Pentax promotional
literature says 12-bit because the decision to change the firmware for
16-bit was made *very* recently (Sept 11).

8? What are those 8 ? ;)

2006/9/16, Bertil Holmberg [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
Mark, the text says that test version they could look at for three
hours were not finished enough to deliver useful test images. We
know that the final version will deliver 16-bit raw files. Where did
you see the Sep 11 stuff?

I received the printed version of the mag with the K10D preview on
the 14th, that's perfect timing, if any! Their conclusion is very
positive; Pentax has created a very strong competitor to Nikon,
Canon, Sony and Olympus, with the reservation that we have not seen
any images from the camera. We don't really expect it will make
photographers convert, but for someone who is buying a new system,
there is much in favor of the Pentax, especially with the low price
 in mind.

The same issue of KB also have a review of the K110D which is also
very supportive. Best among the low priced. A sensible choice,
 simply put.

Things are looking good for Pentax right now. Eight supersonic lenses
coming up. Now, where is that medium format camera?

That may explain the conflicting numbers flying around for the amount of
RAW continuous. I've heard from 9 to 12. Better buy some more disk
space boys...

16 bits sounds very interesting. Could change the way even die hard JPG
people look at RAW.

I've read it too. As all hands on articles about the camera it is
enthusiastic.
I don't think there is more in the article, nothing new, besides the 16 bit
part. Could be a misunderstanding, could be right. Time will tell.

I don´t have time to translate the whole thing, but I can confirm
that they claim to know that it will delivers 16bit RAW files. There
is no mention of any recent changes in the specs, so it could be a
misprint.

I may get a chance to look at one on tuesday, so I´ll bring an SD
card in case I´m allowed to take some pictures...

 8? What are those 8 ? ;)

They are in the 13 page brochure that's been mentioned before, I
believe.

PENTAX has developed a new lens range for the K10D: the DA* series.
The new lenses work
with particularly quick supersonic technology: Piezo electronics-
based autofocus control ad-
justs the focus of the lens at lightning speed. Additionally, the
K10D recognises the “digital
finger print” of the lens and knows the optimal setting values for
exposure (MTF technology)
for each DA* lens. The new supersonic lenses are – like the K10D –
completely protected
from humidity and dust.

smc-DA 14mm/2,8 ED
smc-DA 10–17mm f/3,5–4,5 ED
smc-DA 12–24mm f/4,0 ED (IF)
smc-DA 16–45mm f/4,0 ED

And even if the 16-bit stuff is true now (I'm skeptical) it's a very
recent change. And there's plenty of time before the camera's release
for them to change it *back* to 12-bit :)

Wow. Looks like they are converting all the DA lense lineup to be USM?
I better start saving up, or selling my non-USM DA lenses now!

Are you sure that those eight lenses displayed in the brochure are the
upcoming USM lenses? Not by my interpretation.

The USM lenses would be called DA*; and none of those displayed were
called DA*. I believe the supersonic lenses description at the top do not
refer to the lenses photos. They are displayed as part of the lens chart
illustration.

I don't think there is any official annoucement of USM lens yet.
