Yeah, but some time later today, I'm going to have to brave the elements
and go out to forage for supplies.

Just to be on the safe side, I better pick up a bottle of tonic as well.

Mission accomplished. I got limes and another bottle of tonic.

The governor wants everyone to stay off the roads. Fortunately there's a
small grocery within walking distance of my house.

I didn't vote for him. Don't matter to me whether he's annoyed or not.

But, I did stay on the sidewalks (where they exist).

Wouldn't be a big deal if I'd driven. The one major street I have to use
was plowed clear. I walked because I need the exercise I don't want to
be another of those idiots out on the roads. I could handle it if I had
a job that required me to be out there, like a cop or fireman who had to
go to work, but I don't, so I get to leave the car home.

The street I live on never gets plowed. It's not important enough. For
that I have dig myself out.

Tomorrow is supposed to be up in the low 40s I think the schools will
be open again, so all the soccer moms in their SUVs will be running up
down the street and friction heating should take care of the slush.

I don't know what's going on with the weather right now. I went outside
a few minutes ago there's a light misty rain AND snow falling
simultaneously.

Local weather is showing temperature dew point the same.

this weather. You'll just have to have a slice of cabbage in your gin instead.

The last forecast I heard was for 3 - 6 inches in Raleigh FOLLOWED BY
sleet freezing rain on top of it.

It started at my house about noon (hour forty-five minutes ago) and
 there's already an inch accumulation.

Been some fun already. I usually park on the street in front of my
house, but I went out moved my car back into the driveway where
there's a solid telephone pole a row of large cedars to catch anyone
sliding down the hill towards my house.

I'm all cozy warm. I already have all the wood I'm going to need to
feed the wood stove for several days stacked on a covered, screened porch.

It's almost completely switched over to sleet now. So far it looks like
about 3 inches of snow with 2 inches of sleet on top of it. It's still
supposed to switch over to freezing rain tonight or tomorrow morning.

Re: Winter Weather Advisory ... again UPDATE

2014-02-12 Thread Darren Addy
Hopefully people in the icestorm areas have filled their bathtubs with
water and have gas stoves. In the event of a long power outage, a big
pot of water on the gas stove can generate a lot of heat (and helpful
humidity). Put fridge and freezer contents in the garage (assuming
colder than fridge temps). C

Stan is correct... walking under any tree can be hazardous. A limb can
break off at any moment, particularly if moved by a sudden breeze.
Also, those limbs bring down power lines (the cause of many local
outages).
