Subject: what's the best deal on 8G SD cards?

I'd like to pick up a few more SD cards before my trip to Chicago.

It's been about a year since I researched them, and I think that there
are much faster ones on the market now, when I picked up some Transcend
class 6 cards.

In general, faster is better, but only to the point that the card doesn't
outpace the camera.

I don't think it's all about listed speed. Reliability goes a long way here
as well.
Right now, for me, the best combination of speed and reliability is Sandisk
Ultra II which are plenty fast enough for most of what I do.

I do my best to make sure I buy genuine ones, which for me means I go to a
retailer I trust and I buy off the shelf.
The one and only time I've bought cards off the net (Patriot 8gb Class C
from NCIX) is also the only time I've had a card failure.

Third, I'm using a 4GB 30MB/s version as my primary card (my other
cards are slower HP class 4's)

Re: what's the best deal on 8G SD cards?

2010-04-25 Thread CheekyGeek
SanDisk Extreme iii used to be 20mb/sec (class 6) but now come in
30mb/sec versions. In general, you'll pay as much for a 4 GB as you
would for a 8 GB class 6 model (assuming you are looking at Amazon or
similar).

I have not yet tried the faster card in my K200D and just purchased an
8GB class 6 to go with my original 4 GB class 6 card.

Gone digital? I'm always looking for old Pentax film cameras and
lenses to fit Pentax, (either K-mount or M42 screwmount). Also have a
weakness for twin lens cameras.

Larry, I'd like to offer a modification of your statement below.

Once card outpaces the camera you'd know:
1. You're using your h/w to the fullest extent possible
2. You're not going to buy faster cards as you *know* what you need.

Thus, I think it makes sense to try to find a card that outpaces your
camera, but only just.
