I have a great review in .txt of the Hexar somewhere on my disk, I could send it to the interested (I don't remember the URL I leeched it from), it's too long for posting on list. It includes how to set the secret (read: stupid unclear manual even worse than automatic babelfish translation) functions. However, it also reverts to default settings once you turn it off (like silent mode reverting to normal mode). Email me who is interested in the review. t You mean it's a double exposure? The shutter actually opens and closes t and opens before the flash fires? IIRC, it has a default second curtain synchro (which is of course a technical nonsense as the shutter is leaf not focal plane), so it fires the flash the last moment before the leaf shutter closes. The leaf shutter and silent motorised rewind make it MORE SILENT than any Leica, I read in the review. Good light, Frantisek Vlcek - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: SMC point shoots?
After the recent discussions about what people carry as a just in case camera and one a few weeks back about the look of photos from different lens brands (SMC vs. Series 1, etc.) I got to thinking it would be nice to have a PS with similar optice to my SLR lenses. AC I have bought my father the original 928 which has SMC zoom lens. However, AC the optical performance isn't very good. For great results, I still prefer AC compact with fixed lens. Apart from the very expensive but superb cameras like Ricoh GR1s (I like it! I wish I had the money for it, it costs like a SLR) and Konica Hexar (the same money), it's hard to beat the Olympus Mju:II (Stylus Epic in usa I think). The lens is really sharp (comparable to other good primes) at normal working apertures and medium distances (like 1-10m), it even has sort of spot metering and AF lock. However, it's plagued by two things: 1) lag - it focuses AFTER you press shutter release. 2) set options reset to defaults every time you turn it off (I would love to be able to set spotmetering and no flash as default, alas, every time I turn it off, it reverts to the dumb mode). Still, it's great camera into a pocket for little money, with lens comparable to SLR primes. If you have more money, look at the Ricoh GR1s, which is really small, has great 28/2.8 lens and aperture priority automation (!), and DISPLAYS selected shutter speed in the viewfinder! Plus many other goodies. Good light, Frantisek Vlcek - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions. Re: SMC point shoots?
Hi, Having been caught out a few times recently, I planned ahead yesterday. I was travelling north along the major route through the UK and I knew that the British Motorcycle GP was on. Having the loan of Dennis K's MS-s and 28-70 2.8 (of which more in a later post) I was prepared for taking pictures of bikes we overtook as my young, blonde (sigh) chauffeuse transported me north at unfeasably high velocity. So I was almost perfectly prepared to get two shots of the Range Rover belching flames from every orifice on the other carriageway as we crested a hill. Sad sight. I say almost as I had set up to give a certain amount of blur, with quite a slow shutter speed and there was no time to change anything. In fact, without AF I would have had no chance of getting anything at all. It will be interesting to see what comes out. Apart from smoke... mike - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To add to the recent discussion, I've been playing around with a Konica Hexar for a few months now and believe it's a great camera. However it's not really pocketable like a mju or some of the others mentioned. It's more like the size of smallish SLR body. If the abilityHowever it has some great features, the most significant for me are the way the flash operates (the camera takes a normal exposure and then adds the flash which gives an interesting result) flash compensation, fast autofocus, silent mode (the autofocus and autowind are extremely quiet), automatic compensation for IR film, takes filters (46mm)and has spot metering. The lens is great (35/2), and the camera looks very plain and ordinary, hence it doesn't attract a lot of attention. On the downside, the manual may as well be written in a foreign language and the controls are not intuitive. Darryn Richter Australia - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. The pc35af has a good lens. It is not multicoated. They are rugged little camers. steve - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions. Don't forget to visit the Pentax Users' Gallery at http://pug.komkon.org .

Does anyone know if Pentax either now or in the past has made a PS with SMC optics? I would prefer a non-zoom model.
