Re: While we're discussing Mac LR Classic and drives...
I know that I'm a little late on this, but backing it up seems to be a very good idea. Then test the new drive against both drives, looking at any files that show discrepancies to make sure there is no corruption. Compare the two original files and make sure you have an un-corrupted copy. Get at least one more drive then back up your new drive. On 2/16/2022 12:51 PM, Rick Womer wrote: Thanks, Doug and Larry. I don't know the answer to the question you asked, but if it were my photos I'd go ahead and get another external drive and copy all the photos over to it just in case. Rick, What is the model of this drive? It didn’t quite click what you were saying, that it wasn’t something like a WD element external drive. If it is a case with a couple of SATA drives in it, you might well be able to just replace the drives, probably with bigger ones and double your storage for not much money. Then again you can get a 10TB WD external drive for about $200, copy to it and now you have an extra level of backup. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com -- %(real_name)s Pentax-Discuss Mail List To unsubscribe send an email to pdml-le...@pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: While we're discussing Mac LR Classic and drives...
Rick, I have several 4, 8, and 10TB OWC drives. My older 4TB holds most of my photos. It is on a high shelf in the closet. My newest 10TB has a copy of everything. My two 8TB hold my working backups A and B which I also copy to every few weeks. My 2020, 2021, and 2022 images are on my internal drive. If I had only one external holding everything, I would be very nervous, even without a possible Disk Utility issue. So, in short, worried or not, I suggest you get a new 10TB OWC, copy everything off the (failing?) 8TB, and continue using the 8TB as primary with frequent backups to the newer drive. Thanks, Doug and Larry. I have it backed up to Backblaze; and also had it backed up to another external drive (which is having problems). A new drive just arrived last evening, and I'm planning to back it up there too. Backups have "saved my bacon" several times, so I am diligent about them. I can think of very few situations where one should not be worried about their hard drives. My first question is: How much bother would it be if that drive failed? I’m not sure what you mean by an 8TB file it contains. If it had an 8TB file, then there wouldn’t be room for photos would there? -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com -- %(real_name)s Pentax-Discuss Mail List To unsubscribe send an email to pdml-le...@pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
