I agree - perhaps that, along with the fact that the mist only frosted
the top half of the bus shelter (leaving the figure's bottom 1/2
relatively sharp) are why I'm ambivalent about it (I continue to
vacillate).

It's centred because I chopped off a huge chunk of the right side of
the frame: A great hunking SUV that I thought looked good in the
viewfinder looked stupid in the photo, so out it went. I really
didn't want to crop from the left to "compensate", as I didn't want to
lose that sidewalk - to me that's an important element of the photo.

So, despite the kudos, so far this, to me, is an "almost there" photo,
one that's not bad, but not as good as I'd like it to be, with little
or no way to fix it up without degrading it.

Damn, I hate that!!!

;-)

cheers,

That shape doesn't bother me that much - not as much as the bullseye

It's ok - at least to me - not outstanding. Part of the issue I think
is that the glass is heavily fogged but the surroundings are only
lightly foggy. It makes for an imbalance that looks more like the
fogging from breathing on the windows rather than the fog from the
weather. So more of a thumbs sideways for me.

98 deg & 95% humidity sounds like North Carolina the last couple of

Re: PESO Misty days

2014-01-09 Thread Bruce
For me, the issue with this shot is that it is just not quite enough...there
needs to be something more to push it beyond ordinary. Either more mist or
some interesting filtered light or a change in perspective to really draw me
in. Lots of potential but not quite there. I can't begin to tell you how many
'not quite there' shots that I have taken. But it is the shooting and learning
that we do that helps us to improve.

A lovely atmospheric shot. Don't know whether it's because you
mentioned the buoy, but to my eye it distracts from the landscape
beyond. Maybe crop it out?

I agree with Chris. What leads in this photo, to my eye, is the color in the
sky and landscape elements. The buoy is secondary and doesn't seem to fit with
the strength of sky and landscape, which is very nice. Cheers, Christine

I really like the color in the water echoing the color in the sky, and
the darker hills in the foreground silhouetted against the lighter
colored mountains in the distance. It is a very pleasing composition.

Thanks for the input... hee hee, I thought the float was the only
thing that turned this from yet-another-shot-of-mountains-at-sunset to
something interesting, giving it a sense of scale. Once again
impressed by how differently people see the same thing. -T
