I would pack the whole thing and send it to a commercial freezer for a couple 
of weeks.  AmeriCold is in Denver and is familiar with mass museum freezings.  
Whatever you do, don't "bomb" your museum.  The chemicals will do nothing to 
the insects, but will damage your collection and your health.

vacuuing all the items from the collections to be transferred to the new
deposits with much success regarding preserving both collections and
deposits.

As a precautionary measure here at NMAI we froze nearly all of our organic 
collections when we moved our collection into a new clean building, even though 
there were no obvious signs of active infestation. This was successful and 5 
years later we are glad that we did this.

Mixed media should not be frozen, textiles should be double bagged. Anoxic  
treatment using argon would be easier with less stress on the  collection. 
No chemical treatment, period.

Hi Linda,

Another idea is to freeze any material you are worried about. I know for 
herbarium collections for big moves & shifts a refrigerated truck or 
trailer has been rented by other institutions and parked outside so 
everything could be frozen en mass after leaving the old space and 
before swinging into the new space. I'm not sure how expensive this 
would be, but it would allow you to isolate your collections in large 
groups and outside of the facility where yo have had problems in the past.

I am the Collections Curator at the Fort Collins Museum & Discovery
Science Center, where we are in the planning stage of a big move to a

and textile collection, appear pretty clean right now as far as pests
go, but a history of carpet beetle infestations makes me wary of moving

problems as they appear?  Freezing everything?  Having our pest
management company bomb our current collections storage?
