[Phono-L] Edison Fireside -

2011-11-25 Thread Anthony J. Caruso
Hello all -

I am looking for a carriage arm and a set of lid hasps for an Edison
Fireside model A. The carriage arm is the style that has the little pin in
the front. The one on the machine I refinished appears to have had
an.accident. Please feel free to contact me if you have one or both of
these items for sale.

Thanks,

AJC

Steve - I have an associate in the mold/water/fire/asbestos mitigation
business where this little test will be conducted. He has equipment
necessary for testing for spores.

How will you know if the mold and mold spores are gone?

[Phono-L] Cylinder Box Cleaning Method -

2011-10-25 Thread Anthony J. Caruso
Hello everyone -

I wanted to drop you all a line to see if anyone wants to speculate on how
well a method I am going to try for cleaning/restoring cylinder boxes will
work. I am going to remove the liners, mist the liners & boxes with a
proprietary solution to kill the mold, and then am going to put them in an
ozone chamber to remove the ancient smell. If this works as I suspect, it
would render the liners & boxes as chemically new as possible, while still
retaining the antique look of being a century-old chunk of pasteboard. I am
going to carry this experiment out in the next 48 hours or so, and will
advise the board on how well it worked.

I placed a Victrola for sale on Craigslist today, and almost immediately I
was contacted by two crooks/scammers.

Here is one of the bizarre email I received. I am assuming that a certain %
of Sellers actually fall for this lunacy, otherwise these con artists would
not be trying it.

Hello,

I'm making an immediate purchasing on behalf of my client and you will
receive check payment in excess over the item price. The check is
already signed, authorized and ready to be cashed. You are receiving
over payment because it includes shipper's fee, commission along side
due payments.

So, expect pickup because you are not expected to ship. I understand
that you will only allow the shipping company to pickup from your
location after you might have received the check.

In addition, the check will be sent as soon as you agree with me to
deduct your earnings and send the balance through western union office
or location. Kindly get back to me ASAP with your full name, address
and phone# as it will be written on the check. Kindly have the item
removed off advertisement as it is deemed sold and inform me once
done.

Regards

Hi Bruce and all:
This happens all the time. When I posted items on craigslist I receive
emails from people who said I can work from home and make $3000 a week!!
Others inlcude onel liners asking "Is the item still available?" You respond
and then you receive an email promoting a job opportunity. Best to ignore
these emails and not respond.

Rick

[Phono-L] Modern Cylinder Boxes -

2011-10-11 Thread Anthony J. Caruso
Hello all.

I am looking for a source of modern (i.e. reproduction) cylinder boxes. I
have need of many of them, mainly because I get paranoid about mold from
some of the black & brown cylinders that I have had "infesting" the tube,
for lack of a better word. I am looking for about 3-4 dozen total; I have
seen new ones that they have reproduced the Gold Molded and Amberol labels
on. Does anyone know of anyone who manufactures or wholesales these items?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Tiberius.
