[Phono-L] Seek Assistance

2013-01-27 Thread RKolba0211
I just returned from the fabulous Orlando show and am ready to return to my
hobby by being more proactive, seeking help from other collectors. For
starters, I am seeking Edison 4 minute wax cylinder numbers 57, 147 and 160.
Also, so that I might complete the series, I need D18, D20 and D22.

The Orlando show sets the standard for all others. Its an opportunity for a
bunch of nice guys to get together and share information while having a
great time. There's no drama, no tension, and no rigid rules about when to
buy and when to sell. It's what this hobby is all about and the sponsors
efforts are to be commended. They go above and beyond what might ordinarily be
expected and all in attendance sing their praises. Bob Kolba

Subject: [Phono-L] auction fees

Thanks to all who gave info about auction fees. I asked for their take to be
20%
nd to put a reserve on the Hexaphone and Zonophone (worth thousands each). THe
uctioneer, WOODBURY Auctions then declined...tells ya somethin! I realized
ater, that a "ringer" could come in and buy my multi-thousand machines for a
ew hundred and make off like a bandit if I didn't have a reserve!
At first they asked for 35% + shipping costs, then went down to 25% with no
harge for shipping. BUT, the mention of reserve suddenly turned them off.

Just something to think about...RESERVES are very very important. They may be a
ut-off to some, but to the seller are critical and I'm very grateful for the
eplies I got here.
Thanks folks, many thanks!!!
Ger

If anyone hears of an auction or buyer willing to take on my collection fairly,
lease let me know...still would like to clear it out (northwest CT)...for real
his time. ;)
Besides the Hex and Zono, there are 4 Edisons, a Vic, a Herbert (reproducer
area
ncorrectly fixed), over a dozen horns including one extra large round brass, a
unch of parts, and over 500 records, about half of which look like decent blue
mberols (a couple of other odd ones too & some good wax). Everything is
atalogued, including a few dozen fat flat records and a Diamond Disc head with
iamond. I've had offers for the 2 main machines, but don't want to be
herry-picked. :)

PS: For any one who finds some of the discussion here unrelated to their
mmediate situation, I suggest that rather than drop out totally, get put on
aily digest...it works well for me, and I actually enjoy it. Thanks for that
oo.

I am trying to locate a set of four "ball bearing type wheel casters" for an
arly VTLA. The part is a brass cup with a pressed on shoulder. The small end
f the cup slides up into the leg of the phonograph. In the bottom of one of the
ups is the remnant of a ball bearing ring. The open end of the cup has a
istinct crimp that I assume held the wheel. Obviously, the three parts I have
re missing the wheel assembly. I checked with George and Ron to no avail...

Were they only used on the VTLA?? I just parted out a VV-XIV and saved those

I'm already old. The 4 minute Indestructibles can be played on an Amberola.
Only th early 1A or 1B upright Amberolas had the ability to play both 2

with a 2 minute speed and a 2 minute reproducer. Hope this helps..

my personal collection. I have no intention on placing the machine on

_*Machine Details:*_

*Model:* Edison School (Opera) Phonograph
*Serial No.:* 3510
*Horn:* Original 11 Panel

*Other:* There are approximately 32 Edison School Operas known to exist.
This example is believed to be the only known example to be 100%
original and complete (retaining the original horn, stand, and the 4
boxes/drawers with their lids). The machine works well. I believe the
paint on the horn to be original (my understanding when I purchased the
machine is that someone had cone over the gold lines on the horn but
what was on top had been removed to reveal the original lines).

Offers submitted by email to mari...@optusnet.com.au by no later than

Please submit offers which DO NOT include shipping or insurance charges.
Offers in US$ (US dollars).
Payment (deposit) of $1000 after mutual acceptance of offer. Balance in
14 days via bank transfer (unless otherwise agreed).
If I am not happy with the received offers I retain the right to keep

[Phono-L] Rare Edison Cylinder

2010-02-07 Thread RKolba0211
Recently, there have been quite a few comments about Edison 4 minute wax
cylinder #473, E. H. Shackleton's MY SOUTH POLAR EXPEDITION. Most collectors
would rate this as the rarest of all Edison 4 minute wax cylinders. I have
just listed on Ebay what, I believe to be, a cylinder that is rarer than
the Shackleton cylinder. It is Theodore Roosevelt's speech (#1146)
PROGRESSIVE COVENANT WITH THE PEOPLE. While Roosevelt's other three Edison
recorded
speeches were later transferred to Blue Amberol (April, 1919), this
recording was not since the Progressive Party (aka Bull Moose Party) had faded
into
 oblivion.
