[PHP] http_user_agent and proxy

2001-02-09 Thread Plamen Slavov

Hi guys,
I have this problem:
I am using a script like this to make php use a remote proxy to get pages using a
remote proxy:
 $data1 = fsockopen($proxy, $port, &$errno, &$errstr);
 if( !$data1 )
  {
   echo "proxy not available !";
   fclose($resultfile);
//   exit();
  }
 else
  {
  fputs($data1,"GET $myfiles/ HTTP/1.0\n\n");
  while (!feof($data1))
   {
$mydata = fgets($data1,1000);
echo "$mydata";
   }
  }

The problem is that i want to set the HTTP_USER_AGENT to something different than a
blank field, but have no idea how to do that.

2001-02-09 Thread Ørjan Vøllestad

A little problem, I subscribed with an email alias, and
now it looks like I cannot unsubscribe..
Have sent an empty mail to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"
and gets reply - confirm that I want the email adress "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"
removed from the mailing list, but when I so that, I get a reply that
says failure,
the email does not exists..

How do I remove my email alias from the mailing list?

Re: [PHP] Raspuns: [PHP] Cron + PHP

2001-02-09 Thread Jørg V . Bryne

or even better; compile PHP as CGI in addition to an Apache module,
and put it somewhere in the path. You can then set cron to:

0 20 * * *  php -q myphpfile.php > results_to_this_file.txt

This could be useful if you need to run a script that is not available on
the web-server, for instance.

Use a some text to match against where there's many places for a match
to occur. When you use the PREG_PATTERN_ORDER, for the order argument with
preg_match_all, it's like a global match, collecting the matches and
subpatterns (obtained by using parenthesis, which will 'remember' the
subpatterns) in the 2dim array for your viewing pleasure.

Something like that. I usually have to wrestle with it a bit to get it straight
how the results from the subpattern matches (from the memorizing parens) are
ordered in the array to get the a loop to spit everything back out correctly.
If your nesting parens, I think it's you just start counting the opening paren
from the left, and they'll match sequentially as indexes in the associated array
for that particular match. Well, the 0 index is the entire match, and the subpat
matches pick up at index 1.

But, if the winds blowing from the east, and .

[PHP] Cookies

2001-02-09 Thread Matt

I am having major problems with cookies, it's been stressing me out for
over 9 hours.

I have a script that can set cookies, and it does that, just fine.

What it doesn't do is READ the cookies off the hard drive when the page is
reloaded.
I have tried everything, messing with the domains, expiration time, setting
it to the root,
using the php setcookie function as well as doing it through http headers.
In each case the
script WILL set the cookie on the computer, but it absolutely REFUSES to
read it back up,
even when called in the same exact scope.

Yes, I've checked the spelling too, and the page is rather complex, with
various nested includes and so forth.
PHP version is 4.0
I use both IE 5.5 and Netscape 6, it does the same thing in both of them.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, this has been bugging
the hell out of me.

Thanks.

echo only outputs something. it doesn't return anything. Write
$comm = "$data | " . $this->gpg_command;

and:
$this->gpg-kommand is an illegal (no minus in identifiers!)

Re: [PHP] Cookies

2001-02-09 Thread Ankur Verma

Hi

I also faced the problem once. the cookie not being read by either of the
browsers

The cause of the problem was traced back to a wrong setting of the date on
the client machine as compared with the server. you cancheck thjis up to
confirm.

Another reason can be the path in the cookie but i believe you have already
tried it up.

Hope that helps

It's possible (with serialize), but not desirable if the array can become
big (which is easy with multidim. arrays). Better:

$ArrayS = serialize ($TheArray);
$AKey = md5 ($ArrayS);

// insert into database (key: $AKey, value: $ArrayS)

$Url = $baseurl . "?key=$AKey"

plus the matching reading code

search the mail archives from www.php.net . This question has been very

[PHP] How does one build a big chat system?

The approaches i've so far using PHP is letting a script run (almost)
infinitely and refresh the output every 500ms or so, but this will
require a httpd-Process to run for every chatter, consuming several MB
per User.

Any other suggestions which will cause less server load?

I don't think that refreshing the page on the clientside is a very clean
solution, it really looks quite ugly.

[PHP] More problems with MySql...

2001-02-09 Thread Felipe Lopes

Hey guys, I have another problem...
Now, when I try login to Mysql it says that my user-password is wrong
:-(
So I need to know what is the "equation" to delete, or to change, my
password-user?
What is the "equation" to insert a user after I delete my last user?
Thank you again!!!

I'm sticking my vote in for Edit Plus 2 (www.editplus.com), although there
are approx. 1,000,000 editors that would be suitable for your needs.

I suggest a visit to www.download.com and a search for "text editors".

Cheers
Jon

Whenever you see this message, echo the sql that you are using and also
echo mysql_error() so you can see what is wrong with your query.

RE: [PHP-CVS] cvs: php4 /win32 time.c

2001-02-09 Thread repe

The purpose of the static variable is to keep the time when high
performance counters were started. (This appears to be at boot time.)

This is a one time initialization job, no harm should appear even
in a multi thread environment.

When initialization is done (only once per process), then function
accuracy is microseconds. (Useful in my case, I checked script
run times)

[PHP] mysql not reporting errors

2001-02-09 Thread Christian Dechery

WHy PHP is not showing SQL syntax (or any) errors?

I'm using Win98Me with Apache 1.3.12 and PHP 4.x.

it works... if I run a correct query it runs normally, but if I go like:

$query="selct nonexistingfield from nonexistingtable with all crazy syntax";
mysql_query($query);

it doesn't tell me there's an error... in fact it doesn't show anything...
why is that?

Re: [PHP] Converting CFML to PHP

I didn't see the original post before, but this is interesting. It's not often
we
hear of people switching FROM CF to PHP. It must happen,
but I can't think of too many companies that I know using CF who would
"throw away" that investment, so to speak.

Kevin, could you shed some light on why the change is being made? Was
it financial? Or something deeper than that?

[PHP] upload and content-type problems

2001-02-09 Thread Jim McCormack

Hello All:

I am using a simple script to upload files to allow users to upload
files to a website. All of the various scripts I have tried basicaly
use the recommendations from the PHP manual regarding file uploads. The
user posts a file, which is temporarily held in the temp directory
specified by php.ini and then the system copies the files to it's
ultimate destination directory. Everything works great with one
exception:

All files that are uploaded get corrupted by adding the line:

"Content-Type:something/whatever" and a blank line below it

I am not sure what is causing this to be added to the files, php or
apache but it is driving me nuts.

As a desperate measure I use a shell script to whack the two top lines
off every file after they are uploaded, but this seems absurd.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Cheers,

Jim

at every query line of code to see if there was an mysql_error()

[PHP] fread() a remote file

2001-02-09 Thread Tyler Longren

Hello everybody,

Could you perform fread() on a remote file? Example:
$file = fopen("http://www.myurl.com/test.html", "rb");
$data = fread($file, filesize('http://www.myurl.com/test.html'));

???

Thanks!

I assume everyone knows about SourceForge?
http://sourceforge.net/projects/alexandria/
It is a 'self managed' project. SourceForge manages thousands of open
source projects on the net, so you can be sure it is fairly robust.
Pretty cool features, too.

I have gone as far as creating a single table with a single alpa field. No
luck there either. It gives me the exact same error.

I am succesfully selecting data from the AS400. But no insert yet. Haven't
tried creating tables or anything else beyond that.

[PHP] Cookies reprise...

2001-02-09 Thread Matt

At 08:12 AM 2/9/2001, you wrote:
lets see some code..

Okay, for those so inclined

I did say the page the cookie script was included on was rather complex.
I will say that I double checked and made sure the cookie variables weren't
overwritten in another include file.

You can see what I mean by going to http://www.yaysoft.com (use IE if at
all possible) and on the right side bar where it says "User Status" and has
a message saying "You are not logged in" you can click on the login link
below it.
I created an account for anyone who wants to try (everything works except
the login cookie) so you don't have to waste your time signing up with the
script, note it is case sensitive:
user name: php
password:  php
after you click the login thing the cookies will be set and the page will
not view them.

If you used IE and you navigate to c:\windows\temporary internet files or
wherever your cookies are stored, you should notice that a cookie has been
set... with the path set to the root "/" and the domain set to
"www.yaysoft.com" but the cookies will not show up in the browser.

I have copied the script to a text file at http://www.yaysoft.com/yaylogin.txt

And for any who want to quickly glance at it, here is the code snippet
where the cookies are set:
   if ($item[0]>0) {
 setcookie("ucrumb", $uname, time()+31536000, "/", "www.yaysoft.com", 0);
 setcookie("pcrumb", $pass,  time()+31536000, "/", "www.yaysoft.com", 0);
 header("Location: http://www.yaysoft.com");
   } else
 header("Location: $PHP_SELF?l_action=login&bad=1");

And here is a slice from where they are supposedly supposed to be accessed:
   // Now check to see if we are currently logged in to the Yaysystem...
   // First check to see if the variables plain out don't exist...
   if ((!$ucrumb)||(!$pcrumb)) {
 echo "You are not logged in.";
 echo "";
 echo "[http://www.yaysoft.com/yaylogin.php?l_action=login\">Login]  ";
 echo "[http://www.yaysoft.com/yaylogin.php?l_action=new\">New]";
 echo "";
   // If they DO exist make sure they are a correct pair as per the database...
   } else {

However, I've outputted the contents of $ucrumb and $pcrumb once I get to
the little segment where they are supposed to be accessed and they contain
nothing, so it seems to me that they aren't being sent to the script (which
resides in the root path where the cookie is set to!) I've used HTTP
headers to set the cookies as well, and the problem still persists.

I know this is long and boring and tedious crap, so I don't really expect
anyone to reply, BUT if any of you have the time or inclination, any
help/suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Matt

Yes I could, and so can you, so why not try it?

An example:

while($line = fread($handle, 255)) {
   echo "$line";
}
fclose($handle);

Your best bet would probably be to use the environment variables

getenv("REQUEST_URI") will get you the URL minus the host name, so
basically it's the relative path.

getenv("HTTP_HOST") will return the hostname (www.whatever.com)

Hope this helps.

[PHP]Spider script in PHP.

2001-02-09 Thread Angerer, Chad

I am not sure if this is the correct wording. But I am wondering about a
good tutorial about writing a PHP script that will spider a directory
structure and extract the file names and insert them into a database. Also
this spidering would be done on a directory and its child with mp3 files and
I would like to extract the ID3 tag from it. Any pointers to a good
starting point/reference point would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Well, if sessions are useful for you, go ahead and use them. If you only
want to pass something on 1-5 links on your entire site, sessions are
overkill, but otherwise they'd be my tool of choice.

BTW - arrays don't have to be "huge" to generate unwieldy (and dangerous)

Re: [PHP] How does one build a big chat system?

2001-02-09 Thread Michael Stearne

> How does one build a big chat system?

Not in PHP :-). Really though, PHP is probably not the optimal language to
do something like that in. I would think a Java Servlet or a C program or
a Java applet (client) would be better for building something like that.
PHP was not designed to keep a long script running and running, either was
ASP, Perl or any scripting language. A Java program on the server or a
Java applet in the browser would be better suited because it is used to
running for the long periods of time that a chat program requires.

While that will usually (99.9% of the time) work, this is closer to 100%:
if(preg_match("!/^https/i", REQUEST_URL)) {
...
}

But the other answer about seperating the server root of the SSL server and
standard server is really, truely, a 100%-of-the-time solution since the files
cannot be accessed any other way, and it doesn't require every page to be
parsed by PHP, so you can isolate PDF, plain text, and graphic files as well
as HTML.

If you search archives you'll find some blody battles on this kind of
issues,

there are some slight differences but work both well and are very similar in
performance - so this is the question of style. You see, Professional PHP
Programming was written by 5 young guys (including Sascha) and that is why
the yprobably coulnd't stick to one single style : couse they have some deep
preferences.

[PHP] shows up in IE but not Netscape

2001-02-09 Thread Erik Boles

We are running a webform, that asks for user ID and pass, then passes it on
to a .php3 file that shows them a page to continue (not a security thing,
just a tracking thing).

This .php3 file, called login.php3 works just fine in IE but when viewed in
netscape it simply shows a white screen. We did a "view source" and all of
the php file is there, and it doesn't show any errors (HTML errors blink in
the 'view source' with Netscape).

Any ideas why the code below is not working right in Netscape??

 //print $row["userid"];
 //print ("");

 //test section end

if ($row["userid"] == $userid)

I don't see any closing table tags. IE allows people to get away with
a vast number of errors in their HTML, which is why you can see it in
IE. As per the HTML spec, closing table tags are required.

Good web design rule of thumb: Always check against Netscape. If it
renders in Netscape, odds are it'll render in IE. The reverse is not
true.

Mainly because your closing 'table' tag is missing its slash.
The duplicated 'head' and 'body' tags probably aren't helping
either.

Thanks for HTML-Kit, I'll try it out.

As an alternative to the resource hogging HomeSite (which

What does IDE stand for?

Thanks for HTML-Kit, I'll try it out.

As an alternative to the resource hogging HomeSite (which
has color coding for PHP) I also use ConTEXT (for Windows).

Also :

Whenever this problem exists, run your site through here :

Actually, always run sites through there, it's useful (sometimes a bit
picky.) For things like missing table tags, it's very helpful.

[PHP] problem with classes

2001-02-09 Thread Siim Einfeldt aka Itpunk

I`m writing one html class for my own usage, but I`ve got some
problems. Take a look at the example: $ht ->
row(2,'','first,second'); This works fine ('first,second' represents an
array). But now, when I want to do something like that: $ht ->
row(2,'','$something,second'); then it displays $something and second, but
I don´t want $something, rather the value of it. When I write just $ht ->
row(1,'',$something); it works as expected.

Note: Don`t ask about the other atributes, they are not important. How
could I get it to work? If I do something like this: $ht ->
row(2,'','".$something.",second'); Then still, it echos me
".$something." and second, but not the $somethings value (and the second).

I hope you understand what I need.

Thanks in advance,
Siim Einfeldt

PS: Give a copy to my personal email as well.

And if you can't seperate the root directorys of the secure and not secure
servers, you can setup and aliases directory under the secure server and it
will be the only one that can see that dir.

I find dealing with Netscape browsers a pain. So many people complain that
IE doesn't follow the standards, but I find it the other way around.
Especially when it comes to Stylesheets, even using CSS Level 1, which is
like 5 years old. Netscape just plain ignores alot of attributes, or
handles them different from the spec, that it makes it such a pain getting a
page to look the same in both. Arg

[PHP] XML problems?

2001-02-09 Thread Mailing List Mailbox

I've put together a fairly simple XML parser that outputs embeded objects
as a DOM. You can see that the XML files get parsed correctly (print
"Open: $tag" etc for the proper functions..) and built the DOM correctly
(print_r ( $this->dom ) at the last close_tag () call) but even after
displaying the variable that holds the dom it for some reason resets that
variable to the previous value ( example set $this->dom = 'goatpoo' ) as
soon as it leaves that function although the other variables accessed all
keep their proper values.. this happens even if i change the name of the
dom variable. i checked and no where i can see does it rewrite that
variable. i am using an object for the parsing xml_object() or whatever
it's called sets it.. i was wondering if there might be a bug in PHP or am
I just doing something wrong? I can supply my source if you like. Thanks.

also tried by placing echo and gpg in the php "exec dir" and chown'ing

Re: [PHP] HOWTO handle sessions ?

2001-02-09 Thread JB

this is as simple and complex as it gets.

session_start;
session_register("my_var");

now say we do:

$my_var = 5;

any script, page, whatever you serve that calls $my_var will return 5.
Once you change the variable, $my_var will now be that new value in every
bit of code.

All you have to do is call session_start; on every script that will use your
session variable.

ONLY call session_register() ONCE for each of your variables. If you call it
once on one script and the variable it set to 5. And then you register is
again it will lose the value and will be reset. So, usually you test for it
in an include (which contains you session_start;).

if (!isset($my_var)) session_register("my_var");

Easy cheesey.

Two possibilities I can think of:

(1) Is your echo statement above within a function? If so, you have
to globalize it, or pass it as a function parameter:

function zaphod($beeblebrox)
{
return  ''.
$beeblebrox.
'';
}

echo zaphod($contents);
or

function zaphod()
{
global $contents;
return  ''.
$contents.
'';
}

echo zaphod();

See
http://www.php.net/manual/en/language.variables.scope.php

for more info.

(2) The register_globals parameter is not set. This must be on if you
want GET/POST/COOKIE etc. parameters to be automagically converted to
variables. This can be set in php.ini, .htaccess, or httpd.conf, and
can also be programmatically set and checked via ini_set() and
ini_get(), respectively. If this is NOT set, you'll have to refer to
your GET parameter as

$HTTP_GET_VARS['contents']

[PHP] Credit Cards

2001-02-09 Thread Jerry Lake

I have a basic shopping cart setup
and I am curious as to how I go about
being able to handle real-time credit
card transactions. I realize there are
card services like cybercash and such,
but how do I go about hooking cybercash
up to the existing cart? (the host already
has a merchant connection kit)

Read the Verisign (Under the Ps) or Cybercash section of the PHP manual.

Better still, download the 'tidy' utility from the same site - or even
better, use a free editor like HTML-Kit (www.chami.com) that embeds
'tidy'

Re: [PHP] Credit Cards

2001-02-09 Thread JB

on standard transaction servers where you post a string containing the
transaction info (card, name, amount, login, password, etc) do the
following:

get a merchant account
sign up for authorize.net, ccnow, ibill, etc.
use an application called cURL to post the info to the server from php.
dump the returned message into any array.
look at the array and dependent on what is returned, either mark the
purchase as successful, forward them to a thank you page, update the db,
whatever and ship it.
otherwise forward to a page that says what went wrong.

this is a concise overview, as writing the actual code is beyond the scope
of this thread, especially considering you did not post the actual code it
will work with.

if you're hacking code from another app, you may just want to consider
writing a cart form scratch. it ain't hard. if you're decent with php, any
cart you write will be better than any pre-existing one. because you can
code it to fit your needs to a TEE.

RE: [PHP] Converting CFML to PHP

2001-02-09 Thread Thor M. Steindorsson

I've done this.
Once I did everything in CF.
Today, I do everything in PHP and have not looked back. PHP is faster,
easier and far less taxing on the server than CF.

Basically, once you know the syntax and functions of PHP, converting is
pretty easy, although time consuming. What you need to do is create the
same functionality in PHP, then you take whatever HTML you had in the CFM
files, and use that either as an include file or you can include it directly
in the PHP. Just remember to change all those #variables# to $variables.
As long as you keep the same names, porting the sites is not that hard.
Although I feel for you since you have 500 pages to do. Unfortunately I
don't know of any utility that can do this automatically; perhaps it's time
we who know both languages make one...

I didn't see the original post before, but this is interesting. It's not
often
we
hear of people switching FROM CF to PHP. It must happen,
but I can't think of too many companies that I know using CF who would
"throw away" that investment, so to speak.

Kevin, could you shed some light on why the change is being made? Was
it financial? Or something deeper than that?

Certainly, my typo in the post :)

Thank you.
