[pinhole-discussion] New to the list and saying "hello"....
> I would love to hear your experience with a pinhole > bodycap. I am very interested in getting one for my > nikon. I am curious what the images look like. > Catherine Hi, I'm catching up on old discussions so here goes. I enjoy the bodycap pinhole pictures that have come out so far. Being inexperienced, I just jumped in and made my own from a spare bodycap, drilled and chamfered with the laser drilled pinhole I got from the Pinhole Resource website, secured with black tape to the backside of the cap. My hand drilled, copper foil pinholes proved to be too soft, too oblong, too sloppy for good result, and using the Larry Fratkin on-line calculator put me right in the ballpark for what I received from the P.R. site. My only drawback to bodycap pinhole shooting is I haven't had any darkroom time since high school and I'm limited by space/time/money to start up again, I have to shoot by the roll and trust the friendly local photo lab to do right by me. I am able to satisfy my immediate pinhole image urges by using my "Pola-pin" but these are limited to single copy unless I invest in a Daylab copier or something similar. AAR, I have some images at "http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/wal...@prodigy.net/lst?.dir=/Photo+art&.view=t"; if you're interested, just simple photo storage on the server stuff. I had tried Kodak B/W C-40 process film with the bodycap Canon camera, but found out too late that they process the film and print it on color paper so it had an overall blue tone that took away from the picture. I'll try again in the future, but for right now it's only color. I'm halfway through a roll of film right now, shooting and recording the image info in a notebook to fine tune my technique. I am looking into getting a PinHolga/Diana 120 format in the future to perhaps branch out into different ways, we'll see. Thanks for your interest, I hope I was able to answer some questions. Colin... film sounds interesting but just 1 question... size of film? 8o) (btw if it's 11x14, please mark it sold) thanks andy (Sorry but I don't have Collins email address...) -Original Message- From: pinhole-discussion-admin@p at ??? Subject: [pinhole-discussion] Film for sale, etc. Hi list, Finally about to get started building a new darkroom and need to raise some cash. Thought someone here might be interested. I have one 25-sheet box of Tri-X film I'd like to sell. It's factory sealed and been properly stored (expires December 2003). I'd like to get $55 for it, buyer pays postage (is it safe to mail in ordinary mail, I wonder?). Also, I have a nice Meade 4" telescope with tripod for sale. If interested in either, contact me off list. Sorry this is off topic, but thought a pinholer might be able to use the film. (Both items are in northern California). Colin P.S. Also slightly off-topic, but I think there was a discussion here not too long ago about digital printing. Just wanted to say that yesterday I saw actual prints done using the Piezography system (B&W) and the Lightjet system (color) for the first time. They are simply beautiful. First thing tomorrow morning I am making an appointment with the local company doing the work. I want to learn all about it. __ Do you Yahoo!? Y! Re: [pinhole-discussion] problems with cyanotypes
Ben, Try a longer exposure, for if the image washes away it was not exposed long enough. Also, as the image dries, it intensifies. A quick check of this is to put a washed test print in a drymount press or print dryer. Don --- Ingo Guenther wrote: > Hi Ben, > at first try to use water in a tray, not rinse > water. Re: [pinhole-discussion] problems with cyanotypes
Two of the more common cyanotype problems are alkaline water and/or a bad paper choice. Try adding a few CC of stop bath to your first rinse. If that fixes your problem, then you know your water source is alkaline. Cyanotype need nuetral or acidic wash water. If that isn't your problem, then you need to try a different paper. Reves BFK is a widely available paper that will work with cyanotype. It isn't my favorite paper, but you can get a sheet almost anywhere. papers for cyanotype need to be nuetral or acidic (just like the wash). many papers are made with large amounts of "buffer". This is usually strongly alkaline, and thus an unhappy match for cyanotype. Some papers are simply too "hard" (non absorbant) for a good cyanotype photograph. My favorote paper for cyanotype is Cranes Platinotype available from Bostick and Sullivan http://www.bostick-sullivan.com/ The above assume that by "washed away" you mean faded during washing. If you mean that your image is totally disappearing, then I would be woriied that your chemicals are incorrect or bad. Hi Ben, at first try to use water in a tray, not rinse water. Change the water 8 times. Dunk the cyano careful face down with very low agitation in the tray for 5 minutes. If this not will work, change (at second) to a other paper. Regards, Ingo - Original Message - From: bendur...@aol.com To: pinhole-discussion@p at ??? Hi Ben, at first try to use still water in a tray, not rinse water. Change the water for 8 times. Dunk the cyano careful facedown in the tray, without great agitation.
