I think I've figured out why I like the way your
Bender pinhole camera puts that vignette at the
top of the image: It reminds me of the shape of
the photos used in the old stereo viewer cards.

On a sad note, I just read on the Epson list that the photographer/teacher
Arnold Gassan just passed away after a long battle with cancer. Another of
the great ones gone...sigh. :-(

Zero Image (www.zeroimage.com) makes a variety of lovely wooden pinhole and
zone plate cameras. Almost any camera can become a zone plate camera with
the replacement of the lens with a zone plate. These can be purchased ready
made from www.pinholeresource.com. The focal length of the zone plate must
be matched to the camera.

Very nice, Tina!
I wish I could see them in real. The computer format is so limiting. Of course
the chair is the nicest, but I also like the globe and the window images
very much. There is something very intimate in all three pictures, as if we had
the priviledge of entering by special invitation into you inner creative space.
The soft hand-coloring gives them a special touch, very dreamy. What beautiful
work! Thanks for sharing.

I like the chair a lot, beautiful blue there. I also like the other
window shot. They seem a little contrasty (I know, strong backlights
do that), a little dark. Is this a result of the scan? My screen? Or
will you crop these? Have you played with making two exposures,
combining them in Photoshop?

Giclee is an inkjet print, usually done on rag watercolor paper with a high

are not archival. (The new Epson 2000P printer is supposed to be archival).

Re: [pinhole-discussion] new image upload

2000-11-29 Thread Tina Martin

Hi Colin!
Thanks for your comments. The waterfall image was taken on Ilford Delta 3200
film with my 2 1/4 converted Lubitel Zone Plate. The umbrella was taken with
a lovely zone plate made by Guillermo Penate for my 35 mm Canon, also on
Delta 3200. Both were developed in Rodinal and then worked on in Photoshop.
I do a lot of work with curves in Photoshop to adjust the tonal range of the
final image since the zone plate negs never have much contrast. I have
printed zone plate negs in my regular BW darkroom, but it's a lot easier to
get the results I want digitally. I do almost all my work as digital giclee
prints now, both colour and BW. There are a lot of great watercolour type
papers for printing available. I use Generation colour ink and MIS Quadtone
black inks in two different printers, one for colour and one for BW.

Sorry for the inevitable technical question, but what
kind of camera? We talked briefly before about my
frustration with zone plate, but you've got both the
ethereal haloes and good contrast.

I have just moved to California from Japan (after 18
years!) and will be working less. I hope to have the
time to get back to zone plate and do some more
exploring.

Hi Tina,

Just wanted to say that I liked the two images you
posted. Really like the way the foreground branches
look engraved in white over the misty waterfall in the
background. Looks rather like an inverted engraving
