Maybe, though I don't remember when or how it was done and am not sure what 
preferences you refer to.

How? In Tools|Preferences|Video settings the Output is already set to Default 
and I unchecked "Accelerated video output" just to be sure. Same result.

When tcdemux encounters a zero-filled block (eg. because dvdbackup couldn't
read a sector) it spits out a warning and stops, cutting any transformation:

Do you have many changes that I don't have in the repo that I pushed to

I was looking at the patches that handbrake applies to the packages and,
apart from a few, a lot of them are just portability stuff to darwin/macosx
and some for cygwin, which I don't think that we care about that much.

The only ones that are functional changes are the ones regarding
libdvdnav/libdvdread.

We can drop some of the patches/parts of the packages that the handbrake
team releases with some repackaging (e.g., a get-orig-source script), if
people deem that to be important.

Nevertheless, some of those patches perhaps should be pushed to some
upstream projects (well, I see one patch against lame there...).

Anyway, I would love to have people review my changes and slaughter whatever
I have there, for a cleaner solution.

Perhaps in 2 or 3 iterations, with communication with handbrake's upstream,
we can get it in a more "distribution friendly" form.

Sorry for not replying earlier, but I didn't receive these messages of yours
(I'm subscribed to the list with an account that I don't check as frequently
as my main e-mail).

Regarding Fabian's patch, I will steal it and substitute the kludgy solution
that I used.

Perhaps it would be sane to forward this to the handbrake people? Their code
is of very heterogeneous quality: some parts are good, but some are bad.

Hi,

In windowed mode, there's no issue, but when I switch to fullscreen
mode, I suspect something goes wrong with double buffering, because
Blender flickers between the previous window configuration
(windows/fullscreen, but also between the previous layout and another
layout selected with Ctrl+Left/Right, and even when I simply add a
control panel such as the (t)ransform menu).

A double Alt+Tab (switch to another window and back to Blender) fixes
the issues temporarily; that is, the flicker comes back as soon as I
switch back and forth to windowed mode, or when I change the Blender
layour with Ctrl+Left/Right, etc..

This basically prevents from working in full-screen mode, which is
crucial since Blender has so many things to display on the screen :)

I reopened the bug because it's not just about a minimal latency or a
long standing behavior. Under certain circumstances, the delay is in the
range of 10th of seconds and this definitely wasn't the case with pre
2.0 vlc. I found a report[1] in the vlc forum which sounds like the same
problem so we should try to find the culprit.

My observation so far:

* I absolutely can not recognize any delay with ogg audio files.
* volume change while playing wav or mp3 introduces a variable delay of
  multiple seconds - I even had the 30 second experience like in the
  linked forum thread.
* This is not only related to the volume change but the whole GUI is
  stalled. No reaction on menu or button press actions.
* With some other cpu load, the delay will vanish (or at least be
  minimized). E.g. playing another file in one instance and playing the
  delaying mp3 in another instance (no dbus invoked); or simple do a
  `cat /dev/zero > /dev/null`
* If the system is idling again (apart from playing mp3), the delay is
  back again, too.
* Doing some click-e-di-click on the desktop while waiting for the GUI and
  sound to respond causes the GUI to react and the volume to change.
* No remarkable delay with the vlc web interface
* and last but not least: Pause the song, change volume, resume playing.
  No delay except for the pause-play part. ;-)

For me it looks like some event/timer stuff isn't working as it should
be and maybe it's just only the Qt-interface?

Pretty close.

It's good to wrap it all in a package-dir existence check like that
haml-elisp bit, because with "dpkg --remove" the /etc startup file is
left behind but the rest of the package is gone.  This is important for
an auto-mode-alist entry since if the ecasound.el is gone then visiting
a .ewf would get an error, where you'd prefer left as fundamental-mode
or whatever.

His website still shows "Debian Multimedia" in the header of all
pages. Those need to be updated. Also, his website has no disclaimer
(that I've seen) which states the site is not a part of or is
affiliated with Debian. I know it wasn't explicitly mentioned before
that he should post a disclaimer but, he should post a disclaimer on
the front of his page and in his FAQ.

Also, his donate page only says "You can donate by using paypal in
Euro/€.  or directly to my bank account.  In any case, thanks in advance." This is horrible IMO. This
is practically the same kind of message sent via the spam I get every
single day. How about showing a little appreciation when asking for
contributions? This would work better "Please consider offering a
donation to help me cover the cost of maintaining this
website/service. Your contributions are welcome. " And of course, his donate page
definitely needs to be clear where/who the donations are going to
(i.e. it needs a disclaimer making clear none of the donations go to
Debian).
