Subject: [PLUG] Survey: what make/model router do you use at home?

Galen Seitz and I are working on a project where we encountered a "bug"
in our hardware/software when connecting to certain off-the-shelf wifi
routers, involving the 4way handshake associated with RSN/WPA2. We are
trying to estimate the probability that customers are going to encounter
this in the field. So far, we know of 4 make/models that are
problematic and 4 make/models that aren't.

Please answer the following questions to the best of your ability:

1) what is the make/model of the wifi device that you use in your
house? none is an acceptable answer.

Netgear WNDR3700

2) about how old is it (rough guess is fine)?

5+ years

2) is it running firmware from the vendor or have you installed a 3rd
party firmware like DDwrt, OpenWrt or similar?

Vendor supplied firmware

3) Do you now or have you ever exhibited any interest in model trains?
(this is to weight your answer heavier for the target demographic)

I grew up with a 4'x8' HO gauge train table in my bedroom years ago. I sold to
my best friend when I got into computers in college. I am starting to build a N
scale train table now. I do have some locomotives, but I currently have two MRC
throttle packs and I'm working with insulated blocks so I can run two trains at
once on my layout. I had the same things years ago with atlas control switches.
I have not bought any N scale locomotives with any digital command and control.

The general idea is once we have a guess at what are common devices, we
can obtain access to an example to test against off of ebay or from a
willing volunteer.

You can respond here or mail me directly at wifisur...@klickitat.com
and I can compile aggregate results.

I appreciate your help!

Please answer the following questions to the best of your ability:

 1) what is the make/model of the wifi device that you use in your
house? none is an acceptable answer.

*Asus RT-N16*

 2) about how old is it (rough guess is fine)?

*Maybe 3 years -- possibly older*

 2) is it running firmware from the vendor or have you installed a 3rd
party firmware like DDwrt, OpenWrt or similar?

*firmware is Tomato USB -- recent Shibby build -- K26USB-1.28 (Mega) *

 3) Do you now or have you ever exhibited any interest in model trains?
(this is to weight your answer heavier for the target demographic)

*Model trains are cool -- but have no time nor money for them.*

Since model trains can be made Turing-Complete you could build a router out
of a model train and install OpenWrt on it. You'd probably have to put it
over in Eastern Oregon to find enough room.

About 3 years old. My old Cisco Speedrunner finally died

The telco on no, after the telco 'box', I have a four network port

Well, it's got a Qwest sticker on it. I'd say that it's pretty old.

Dunno. I got it secondhand, from a friend. I doubt that she messed
with the firmware. I certainly haven't.

My dad spent ages in building them, and in creating intricate layouts
for them. Me, not so much. Although now I find them interesting to
sketch. Sleek black locomotives pulling strings of carriages around
snow-dusted craggy hills.

Some years the train gets set up around the Christmas tree. It hasn't for
the past couple years because I now have a two year old. :) But that's
really the extent of when I play with it, and that also shows about the
extent of the track and trains I have.

Used to build and had minor layouts. Not sure what 'exhibited any
interest' means.

Maybe a couple of years. I got it based on results of a thread on this
list, so a more accurate guess could be made.

Vendor.

I had a Lionel 027 train set when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. During the
5th grade to high school years I had an HO layout set up from time to
time. I dabbled with N a bit after getting married, but never got around
to designating space for a layout. All the old train gear went away by
way of Craigs List several years ago.

Less than a year.

I just plugged it in and it worked. I installed nothing.

Six decades ago I had HO model trains. I outgrew the interest.

[PLUG] Survey: what make/model router do you use at home?

2015-12-22 Thread Russell Senior

Galen Seitz and I are working on a project where we encountered a "bug"
in our hardware/software when connecting to certain off-the-shelf wifi
routers, involving the 4way handshake associated with RSN/WPA2. We are
trying to estimate the probability that customers are going to encounter
this in the field. So far, we know of 4 make/models that are
problematic and 4 make/models that aren't.

Please answer the following questions to the best of your ability:

 1) what is the make/model of the wifi device that you use in your
house? none is an acceptable answer.

 2) about how old is it (rough guess is fine)?

 2) is it running firmware from the vendor or have you installed a 3rd
party firmware like DDwrt, OpenWrt or similar?

 3) Do you now or have you ever exhibited any interest in model trains?
(this is to weight your answer heavier for the target demographic)

The general idea is once we have a guess at what are common devices, we
can obtain access to an example to test against off of ebay or from a
willing volunteer.

You can respond here or mail me directly at wifisur...@klickitat.com
and I can compile aggregate results.

I appreciate your help!
