As root: create a directory in your partition. Then set ownership, group
and permissions to that directory, allowing users to write into the
directory (ies).

Hope it helps,
Tomas

If you examine the headers, does the mail traverse through domain
spiretech.com, which seems to be the domain hosting the list
manager.

I'm seeing almost none of the SPAMs people are reporting except
from the South African helpdesk replies, which likely are not SPAM.

This indicates to me that the emails have been harvested and
are being used as direct destinations, bypassing the list.  Whether
they end up "on the list" for you would depend on how you have your mail
client configured to classify mail and how it identifies list messages.

Alas, I emptied my Junk folder after amassing too many photos. But my
recollection is that the To: was to me. In addition, at least one of the
messages used my first name. They all wanted me to go to a website I
didn't look at (I didn't inspect the link) to get a phone number to call

Using GParted I created an ext4 partition labeled "owlcommon".
I added the following line to fstab:
LABEL=owlcommon /home/richard/Documents/tst_common ext4 rw,user 0 0

On reboot it does appear in the expected file system location.

 *BUT* it is locked {owned by root with users only able to read}

I would like all users to have unrestricted access.
If not possible, since "richard" has the same UID on all systems, I
 would
like "richard" to have full access AUTOMATICALLY.

IOW when I do a fresh install to another partition I want to write a
 line
to that system's fstab (or elsewhere) such that "richard" automagically
 has
 full access.

About a year ago I attempted to install MariaDB but didn't find a

I use Debian 9 with MATE.

I found:
 https://www.tecmint.com/install-mariadb-in-debian/
 https://www.linode.com/docs/databases/mariadb/mariadb-setup-debian/

Using the official Debian repository:
 apt-get install software-properties-common
 apt-get install mariadb-server mariadb-client

There seemed to be no problems.

*BUT* both references auto-magically go to a GUI setup screen.

It was suggested in another forum that I (as root) do:
 dpkg-reconfigure debconf
 dpkg-reconfigure mariadb-server

The first appeared to run.
The second did nothing. No warnings. No error messages. Just returned
to prompt.

Ideas.

When installing MariaDB SQL server on Debian you actually have to run a
setup script to get a production ready system you can actually connect
to and start using. After installing mariadb-server from APT you need
to run a script as root called mysql_secure_installation. It should ask
you some basic questions like what should the root login be, delete test
database, and deny anonymous remote logins. after you do that just run
the client, mysql and starting sending your SQL commands. If you need a
good resource on SQL commands W3schools has a really good desk
reference at https://www.w3schools.com/sql/ . If you plan on using this
beyond just playing around with it be sure to setup an actual login for
you SQL server. Running as root is typically a bad practice.

I should have big enough block of free time this weekend to carefully
experiment. Thank you.

The tutorial at https://wiki.debian.org/OpenVPN is fairly easy to
follow and will produce a nice stable VPN although you will need to
tweak it some for specific situations.

Tomas,

My experiences are limited to the the two you mention here:

Do you get response from customer support like the one mentioned by Rich
couple of months ago or Melina Taylor lovelygirl...@lovelynsacusal.pw or
...?

The latter, using several domain names, appeared only yesterday after my
responses to a single thread. My mail logs show the former being rejected in
response to others threads to which I've not contributed. I've added the
latter name to the rejection list.

Now and then I get similar spam messages from other mail lists so the
situation is not unique to here.

Re: [PLUG] When {[right question] >= (useful answer)} ?

2018-07-04 Thread Richard Owlett

This Richard is confused ;/

Using GParted I created an ext4 partition labeled "owlcommon".
I added the following line to fstab:
  LABEL=owlcommon /home/richard/Documents/tst_common ext4 rw,user 0 0

On reboot it does appear in the expected file system location.

*BUT* it is locked {owned by root with users only able to read}

I would like all users to have unrestricted access.
If not possible, since "richard" has the same UID on all systems, I
would like "richard" to have full access AUTOMATICALLY.

IOW when I do a fresh install to another partition I want to write a
line to that system's fstab (or elsewhere) such that "richard"
automagically has full access.

wes,

I must have been undercafinated when I responded. Partitions are always
/dev/sd* (or similar) while file systems have names. It's been a hectic day
but I won't claim that as an excuse.

Best regards,

Rich

[PLUG] Spammers on the plug list

2018-07-04 Thread Tomas Kuchta
We seem to have increased presence of spammers on the list either as
registered members or someone is compromised.

Do you get response from customer support like the one mentioned by Rich

I get spam only when I post and I'm sure Gmail takes care of more then I
actually see.

Who is the list maintainer to check the list for specific email addresses?
