No, just follow the money and see where it takes US.ALL OF US.
I think the $29 Billion (interest only) per month is a heavy load,
and that does not count the additional $3000 - $4000 per year energy
costs per household we will see with cap & trade..

Does it matter if someone makes money off carbon offsets?

It does if it is a scam...no matter who is making the
money.

Isn't the point of capitalism for someone to make a profit?

Yes, for a legitimate product or serviceis it a scam or not?
Seems to me that the first guy to call for it has changed his mind
about it..but we are still following a 'political icon' as our
guru.why? Is he making money on it?

Isn't that why we have insurance companies smack dab in the middle
of health care? Do you honestly believe that insurance companies
add value to the health care equation? The polar ice caps are
melting at a record pace.

Sorry, I respectfully disagree

Where is it you believe ice is increasing?

South pole..for one.look again.al all areas, not just
those sections where is has decreased..look at the totals -
do not pick and choose...

RE: OT: ICANN and NRO

2009-06-24 Thread keith smith

The interesting this is that some will say we are losing ice while others say
we are gaining ice. Still others say this is a normal fluctuation.

When I look at who stands to gain if global warming is accepted and carbon tax
and cap and trade are put into law it makes me wonder if there is any such
problem.

It's interesting to google for 'average age of fox news viewer'.

May I ask what that has to do with the content or accuracy? Or are
you a "sheeple"?

I've checked out both enough to know that their principal product is
reassurance to their aging audience that the world hasn't changed that

Fox News also provides soft core porn but the selection is better

There is a market for what these people provide and just because I

No, just follow the money and see where it takes

that does not count the additional $3000 - $4000

I personally do not claim to have made any hard decisions about global
climate change but obviously the glaciers and the polar ice caps are
melting at a record pace.

Really? I think it depends on who you are listening to.

I think that in my lifetime, there is probably little that can or will
be done to reverse the impact of man on the earth's environment but I
think of us as stewards for the generations that follow.

I think that even after Columbus returned to the Old World,

Are you aware that we actually have MORE forests in the USA now than
we did then?

I don't think that this is the proper forum for a debate on global
climate change and I am sure I am not well enough informed to have an
intellectual debate on the topic so I think it is better to just let it
pass.

It's a tough issue. I certainly agree that the facts are more
important than the sponsorship. If the authors of the site had been up
front about who they were representing, I wouldn't have bothered to
comment. But my own take is that there are enough sites out there
which are up front about their sponsorship that I don't have time for
those that aren't. If a site obscures it's affiliation I think it is
reasonable to assume that it is deliberately misleading about other
things.

I did. The fact that the site is sponsored by Conoco-Phillips would
indicate that it deserves extra scrutiny, to be sure. So be sure to give
the content extra scrutiny. I think it'd be foolish though to disregard
it entirely because of the source or affiliation.

'Theory' doesn't mean what you think it means.

"A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some
aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been
repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment. Such fact-
supported theories are not "guesses" but reliable accounts of the real
world. The theory of biological evolution is more than "just a
theory." It is as factual an explanation of the universe as the atomic
theory of matter or the germ theory of disease. Our understanding of
gravity is still a work in progress. But the phenomenon of gravity,
like evolution, is an accepted fact."

As Johnson clearly states, the reality is..."The pack ice has thinned by
about 40 percent in the last 30 years and may be nearly gone in a few
decades, said Johnson."

The theory is that the increased salinity MAY result in new ice sheet
formations.

Thank you for the lesson on reality vs. theory.

It's interesting to google for 'average age of fox news viewer'. I've

reassurance to their aging audience that the world hasn't changed that
much since they were middle aged. Fox News also provides soft core

There is a market for what these people provide and just because I

the mainstream. It's not as if the dittoheads were actually persuaded

I think you are asking these questions of the list not because you wish
answers but because you think that there is a political point to be
made.

Does it matter if someone makes money off carbon offsets? Isn't the
point of capitalism for someone to make a profit? Isn't that why we have
insurance companies smack dab in the middle of health care? Do you
honestly believe that insurance companies add value to the health care
equation?

The polar ice caps are melting at a record pace. Where is it you believe
ice is increasing?

I personally do not claim to have made any hard decisions about global
climate change but obviously the glaciers and the polar ice caps are
melting at a record pace. There also was some clear concerns about the
effects of Freon, acid rain from the sulphurs and particulates released
from burning coal so there are some things that are understood to be
true about man's impact on the environment. This has absolutely nothing
to do with whatever I may think about 'An Inconvenient Truth'.

I think that in my lifetime, there is probably little that can or will
be done to reverse the impact of man on the earth's environment but I
think of us as stewards for the generations that follow.

I think that even after Columbus returned to the Old World, there were
many who still clung to the belief that the earth was still flat and
Galileo was deemed a heretic by the Catholic church because of his
belief that the planets revolved around the sun. I think that history
has demonstrated that will be some who profess to be knowledgeable but
will deny the truth of their own environment.

I don't think that this is the proper forum for a debate on global
climate change and I am sure I am not well enough informed to have an
intellectual debate on the topic so I think it is better to just let it
pass.

of course I have. I personally dislike Sean Hannity because he is a
character assassin and I think O'Reilly is about as dishonest as they
come. I am of the opinion that Limbaugh doesn't actually believe
everything that he says and is working a formula that has made him rich.

But I am not afraid to listen to people that I don't agree with

These days, I am a bit tired of politics and that corporate control over
our government is now a forgone conclusion.

Sometimes to understand people you have to be willing to suspend your
own assumptions...sort of like what was necessary for me to read the
crap by Ayn Rand. I am not a Christian but I have read the New
Testament. I am not a Mormon but I have read the Book of Moroni.

I think I am not afraid to read other people with whom I do not agree
and am not afraid to challenge what I believe to be true. Knowledge and
information is not about only listening to people and reading things
that you believe are true.

I think this conversation is finished.

No one I know actually believes Gore said "I invented the Internet." At
the very worst they haven't heard the actual claim/poorly phrased answer
in an interview that he /created/ what is phased like the /entire/
Internet. No one in Washington, DC could actually be stupid enough to
mean something like that seriously. ... Wait, no, I take that back.

I must address this movie which was let out of the bag earlier (sorry),
I can't find /any/ base to back it up. Not even the most liberal
(overestimated), doomsday of estimates suggest the sea levels could rise
ten feet (next highest is from the UN at sixty inches). And that
presumes this will continue and climate models are accurate, which they
are not, they don't account for pirate activity: Recent Somalian pirate
activity has been lowering the temperature (check for yourself). (On a
more serious note, other things unaccounted for include ocean currents
and microbes, desert soil, cloud cover and visible, non-greenhouse
particulates most of which lower the temperature, greenhouse gases,
and/or increase cloud cover. There was a massive temperature discrepancy
when the planes were grounded after 9/11, and that's just the tip of the
iceberg. Yea puns.)

I have not. No need to I do not beleive him.

Check this out:

This site http://www.taxfoundation.org/blog/show/1849.html

says this

"Former Vice President Al Gore has a novel approach for dealing with global
warming: tax carbon dioxide emissions instead of"

Carbon dioxide? Why? Because you and I emit carbon dioxide. If they can tax
it you and I will be liable to pay tax on our very breath. What about that
beef you eat. More Carbon Tax it just keeps going.

This site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photosynthesis says

"Photosynthesis[α] is a process that converts carbon dioxide into organic
compounds, especially sugars, using the energy from sunlight.[1] Photosynthesis
occurs in plants, algae, and many species of Bacteria, but not in Archaea.
Photosynthetic organisms are called photoautotrophs, since it allows them to
create their own food. In plants, algae and cyanobacteria photosynthesis uses
carbon dioxide and water, releasing oxygen as a waste product.".

Interestingly enough our planet takes care of this problem automatically.

As long as someone stands to gain billions off of something they are trying to
convince me of I am suspicious of their motives.

There are scientist that will tell you there is no global warming.

So who do you beleive? They guy who has little to gain or the guy who will hit
the lottery many times over if he convinces you there is global warming?

I would say Al Gore is Mr. Mis-Information. All he does is try to tell us
there is Global Warming while there is no real proof.

The fact is that Al Gore either owns or is a major share holder in a carbon tax
trading company. If the carbon tax passes Al Gore will become a
multi-billionaire.

If the Carbon Tax passes it is estimated that you and I will give the
government between $300 a month and about $800 a month in additional taxes.

What will that do to the economy?

I think that anyone who repeats that theory of Al Gore doesn't really
care anyway.

The sad truth is that our elected representatives whether in the House
or Senate are almost all poorly informed about all technology matters
and even worse, it is the corporate interests that lobby and get their
measure. Can someone say clean coal?

Al Gore was one of the most informed Senators and someone that ridicules
him for something like this is really only interested in trying to score
cheap political points at the cost of intellectual honesty.

I think the reason we get such crappy government is because we don't
care enough to be informed ourselves so that we elect informed people to
office.

Gore did coin the term "information superhighway" and has managed to
come out of public office relatively unscathed. He does incredibly
good works and makes intelligent movies while the rest of bask in
misinformation and the 7 Deadly Sins (meaning to "miss the mark")
hopelessly programmed by television.

Most of "us" don't even realize the depth of the NSA's ability to
intercept information or their use of "network protocols". The rest
can't even conceive of where this will all take up on the information

I seem to think that we created the Internet. And now we want to give it to
some global body?

A while back I seem to recall that there were some, for lack of a better
word, sub-nets for sell for $100k.

I wonder if that is where we are headed. Each country could have it's own
sub-net and be part of the "Internet".

More information than you can shake an IPv6 stick at.

Oh, but that would not be FAIR - some have more need?

Perhaps another technical revolution is required to develop the
technological solutions (everywhere) before human interest takes over?
