Tried pulling that up as it appeals greatly to me, but seems the link
(or their server) is dead... It's about damn time, and hopefully Valve
can force vendors (and linux where necessary) to fix their drivers
finally to do it, much as they already did Intel and Nvidia for linux.

I game quite a bit now under linux, and find it quite suitable (after
killing compiz permanently and getting adequate hardware). I've been
anxiously waiting as steam4linux I'd love to play left4dead 2 across 5-6

If I remember correctly Cucumber will make HTTP requests to your test server.
So there's no reason you couldn't write your tests in Ruby even if the server
code is PHP. You can use CI server like Jenkins to run your PHPUnit tests.

The default for sed is to output the results to stdout.
If you just leave out the option to write back to the original file, wouldn't
that work as a test?
Alternatively you could pipe the sed output into diff against the original file
Something like this:
"sed -e '' infile | diff infile -"

test a sed command?

2011-09-13 Thread Dazed_75
How do people test sed replacements on something consequential? I thought I
remembered sed having an option to just report what changes it WOULD HAVE
made without actually making the changes. But I can't find anything like
that.

Best I can think of is to make a test directory [hierarchy], copy your files
into it, run the sed command and then look at all the files for intended and
unintended changes (or diff them from the originals). That would seem to
suck!

Ok, firewall involved blocking outbound dns queries? Something upstream
blocking dns queries?

Quick test is resolve against 68.2.16.30 (cox's dns server I think is
still open) or any general dns server outside. Make sure you can
actually perform a dns looking outside (allow tcp/udp port 53 traffic to
dst of *). Unless you have a managed firewall with anal security,
typically cheap little bugger firewalls won't block this by default.

Other than that, all I can say is send me all your named.conf files
offlist and I can try and load it up on one of my working systems to see
what's up with that.

I'm grasping at straws now unless your version is just plain broken...

have added the -d 10 to the options, yet I see nothing in the log files.
What is the next step?

Hi David!

Nice to see you on Saturday!

Bind9 can be fussy (rndc controls everything).

You ARE changing the right item to turn recursion on.
http://www.eukhost.com/forums/f15/turning-off-dns-recursion-bind-2283/

But you can also do this in a Bind9 ACL using the "Views" feature:
http://www.bind9.net/manual/bind/9.3.1/Bv9ARM.ch07.html
http://oreilly.com/pub/a/oreilly/networking/news/views_0501.html

Are you restarting named after a change? "/etc/init.d/named restart"
If you have rndc are you reloading? "rdnc reload"

Do you have logging turned on, so you can see what is happening?

Are you editing the right file? There's a chroot? "locate named.conf"

Re: Setting Up Bind9 Test

2011-08-14 Thread Michael Butash
Make sure you're listening on the right interface (not just 127.0.0.1)
and you allow-query any as well as recursion.

options {
directory "/var/cache/bind";
pid-file "/var/run/bind/run/named.pid";
statistics-file "/var/run/named.stats";
auth-nxdomain no;# conform to RFC1035
// listen-on-v6 { any; };
listen-on port 53 { any; };
allow-recursion { 10.0.0.0/8; };
allow-query { any; };
allow-query-cache { any; };
};

Re: Setting Up Bind9 Test

2011-08-14 Thread Lisa Kachold
Hi David!

Nice to see you on Saturday!

Bind9 can be fussy (rndc controls everything).

You ARE changing the right item to turn recursion on.
http://www.eukhost.com/forums/f15/turning-off-dns-recursion-bind-2283/

But you can also do this in a Bind9 ACL using the "Views" feature:
http://www.bind9.net/manual/bind/9.3.1/Bv9ARM.ch07.html
http://oreilly.com/pub/a/oreilly/networking/news/views_0501.html

Are you restarting named after a change? "/etc/init.d/named restart"
If you have rndc are you reloading? "rdnc reload"

Do you have logging turned on, so you can see what is happening?
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIND9ServerHowto

Are you editing the right file? There's a chroot? "locate named.conf"

RE: Ot hard drive stress test

2010-05-20 Thread ChasM Marshall

Hiya,

I'm gonna fourth (or fifth) it for the WDC hard drives.
The best recommendation is the "Raptor" line. They are 10,000 rpm discs.

For crazy fun I got two of these, back when 70Gb was the biggest size.
I used mobo-based firmware and made them into a single RAID-Zero stripe set.
Performance stripe. Like, crazy-wow load and startup times. Through-put, put
through!
I did a Win XP pro installation and the MS software didn't even notice.
'Twas all a giant C: of 140Gb. That was years ago, and the installation is
still fine.
Now, the big size for Raptors is 'round 170Gb each, I haven't checked lately.

All sytems, Linux or MS or Mac are limited by the HD speed bottleneck.
It's nice to see how easy it is to almost DOUBLE their throughput.

Also, Hitachi drives are a good second choice. These guys bought all the IBM
patents
and research and took over all the IBM production sites. Personally I feel the
technological advantage that the U.S. held, has left the building.
Asian production will eventually (maybe already!) outstrip even the WDC
products.

I too have seen misery from Maxtor. They just don't have production quality
control.
Fujitsu is the same way. I'm saddened every time I see a PC with these
installed.
Future misery in these brands.

It should be mentioned that, while reliability differences between
server and consumer lines are negligible, server lines typically have a
longer warranty period (WD Black is 5 yr), while consumer lines are
usually 1-3 years, depending on mfr and model.

Quality on consumer drives tends to be more variable, but no lower overall.

I've seen all of the major brands work and fail at similar rates across large
numbers of drives. Sometimes a batch will be bad, and age-in-store has a huge
impact on reliability.

Overall, run load as heavy as your main application will do for the first 3
months, as many drive failures seem to happen then (and it'll be in warranty).
After that, the next spike in failure happens at around 2 years and failure
rates remain high thereafter.

MTBF numbers seem to be largely irrelevant.

Interestingly, SMART data seem to also be largely useless as well.

Bonnie++ is a disk benchmarking tool, but you can use it for stress

Unfortunately, I don't have any hard numbers, but my experience comes
from the Desktop environment and the "server grade" drives seemed to do
a little bit better than when I used consumer grade drives. Perhaps
that handle power cycling better.

I do wish I had kept really good notes though since I had at least
10,000 drives go though my hands, and it would be interesting.

They're the more expensive ones. ;)
Seriously though, for WD they're the Black labeled ones. I don't know
for the other manufacturers.

I'll third on western digital, seagates are also pretty good, but
whatever you do don't even start to consider Maxtor. They seem to have
a near 100% failure rate. It's not if they are going to fail, but when.

Also don't go with any hard drive manufacturers budget line or low end
drive, try and go for drives that are made for server. They aren't all
that much more, but seem to have much lower failure rates.

The badblocks command is what the mkfs.ext3 command uses when given 2 -c
flags. Not quite the same flags overall, but it gets the job done. Just
be sure to use it before/when you create the filesystem. ;)

Re: Ot hard drive stress test

I like WD as well. Their warranty exchange process is a breeze, and they
also have a nice customer loyalty program that saves some $$ when
replacing a drive that is out of warranty.

AFA testing goes, I simply use mkfs.ext3 and use 2 -c flags. This does 4
complete cycles (1010, 0101, , ) of writes and reads to the
partition. I do this especially on used drives, but have begun doing it
on new ones as well. Not exactly a stress test, but I'm more interested
in finding existing problems than causing new ones. ;)

RE: RHCE test dates?

2010-03-08 Thread Taylor, Kaia
To my surprise, I just got management approval to attend the RHCE class
+ exam which starts a week from today, March 15-19 with the exam on the
19th. So I enrolled, of course!
Is anyone else from PLUG attending the full week? Anyone who can help
me study?

I asked my Redhat contact how many were enrolled and as of about 30
minutes ago, there were 8 out of a maximum 14 in the class.

RE: RHCE test dates?

2010-02-16 Thread Taylor, Kaia

So... who might actually be writing RHCE on May 14 in Phoenix?

I'm thinking about it. I would be willing to set up a few VMs in a little
practice area with anyone who is studying (servers like "this server doesn't
boot right", "new server", "bad guy", "good guy", "rpm supply")

RHCE test dates?

2010-02-09 Thread Charles Jones
I thought the RHCE exams were given monthly. I just checked the RedHat site
( https://www.redhat.com/training/offices.html#phoenix ) and it seems to
indicate that the next available RHCE exam date is not until May 14th...the
spacing on that seems pretty far? I did notice that the testing dates for
just the RHCT seem to be monthly.

Note that I checked both locations:
"Arizona Facility" Interface Technical Training 3110 N. Central Avenue, and
"JBoss Facility" ExitCertified Phoenix 101 N. 1st Ave.

What CommonName (CN) did you use when you generated the certificate request?

What does the
# host --fqdn
command show you on your server?

The CN name you use on the certificate request should match the result
of "host --fqdn" on your server. Change whichever so that they match.

Re: configure a test SSL

2009-08-31 Thread keith smith
Made those three changes and now FireFox says

Secure Connection Failed

newcart.dev uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed.

(Error code: sec_error_untrusted_issuer)

---

I added an exception to FireFox and now it works!

Thanks to everyone who pushed me in the right direction!!

ok, with all that stuff commented out, the browser sends you an ssl
request, and you answer in plaintext. Chaos ensues. (The server
doesn't 'know' that its supposed to speak ssl on port 443. That's a

The only must-have directives are SSLEngine on, SSLCertificateFile,

btw). Everything else seems fine at a glance, but you can leave the
rest commented out while you're debugging.

You could use a commercial service, or you can get a certificate request
signed for free by someone (like me!) at CAcert.org, then add
CAcert.org's root certificate to your ca-bundle.crt certificate chain.
This is slightly better than a self signed cert.

and when I try to access the site with https I get

It's normal to see the 'authenticity could not be verified' error with
a self-signed cert. If you want to get rid of that error, you have to
get your certificate signed by a recognized signing athority like
Verisign or GoDaddy.

The 'unknown content type' error may be another issue. Post your
VirtualHost config for your SSL vhost so we can troubleshoot. Or, you
can change LogLevel to 'debug' in your Apache config and watch the
error log while you access the server with a browser.

Re: configure a test SSL

2009-08-31 Thread Eric Shubert
You can do it the hard way with openssl commands.
Or you can simply:
# cd /etc/pki/tls/certs
# make mycert.pem
See the Makefile there for details.

Then point your apache configuration to use the cert you created.

You can put them wherever you want. Reference them with
SSLCertificateKeyFile and SSLCertificateFile directives.

http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/mod_ssl.html#sslcertificatekeyfile
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/mod_ssl.html#sslcertificatefile

I think the RedHat/Fedora convention is /etc/ssl or /etc/httpd/cert or
something like that.

Yes, you do need to set up a new VirtualHost listening on port 443.
Note that you can only have 1 SSL virtual host per IP address.

Hi I am running

Fedora Core 5 (I know it is a little old) Apache/2.2.0

Local.

I would like to setup a test SSL on my server that is on a private IP and
used for testing.

Is there a way to configure a test SSL?

Thanks in advance!

This may or may not work for you, give it a shot...

cd /etc/ssl
openssl genrsa -des3 -out private/server.key 1024
openssl req -new -key private/server.key -out private/server.csr
mv private/server.key private/server.key.secure
openssl rsa -in private/server.key.secure -out private/server.key.insecure
# this one is split into two lines...
openssl x509 -req -days 365 -in private/server.csr \
  -signkey private/server.key.insecure -out certs/server.crt

This will create a key requiring a password - server.key.secure
An exact key without a password so apache will start without requiring you to
input your password - server.key.insecure
A certificate signing request - server.crs
A x509 signed cert using your new keys - server.crt

Good luck!

Dear obnosis,

We recently learned that certain Elance user information was accessed
without authorization, including potentially yours. The data accessed
was contact information -- specifically name, email address, telephone
number, city location and Elance login information (passwords were
protected with encryption). This incident did NOT involve any credit
card, bank account, social security or tax ID numbers.

We have remedied the cause of the breach and are working with

also if you use Enigmail, I suggest using signature attachments as
the embedded signatures make reading difficult for many clients such
as Gmail. Enigmail is very dependable.

Re: Yet Another PGP Test...

2009-05-15 Thread Joe
Once you know how to set up the keys via openGPG, everything else is
cake. Enigma will "just work", as will the sweet firefox plugin FireGPG
(which adds GPG to Gmail through the web interface).

In fact, you really don't even have to know how to manage openGPG via
the terminal anymore, there are a bunch of GUI apps for doing it. GnuPG
is probably a good place to start though:

Re: Yet Another PGP Test...

2009-05-15 Thread Joseph Sinclair
We can get your public key now (MIT server), but the signature doesn't match on
this message.
The signature on the first message in this thread now checks out, however.

I'm guessing that the PGP/MIME system didn't sign quite correctly to pass
through the PLUG server without invalidating the signature (when the mailman
tail was added).

Take a look at the source for this message to see how my software signs to
ensure the signature survives the trip through the mailing list server.

Hi,

I would like to learn about encription and signatures.  Is there a good
how to for Enigma and openPGP.
